3D Wizards of Magic Machine

Entering the Third Dimension

All Forgotten Runes Wizards, Souls, Beasts and Warriors have fully-rigged, metaverse-ready 3D models created for each character in the collection. Models for each collection are available for download on the official website in a variety of file formats such as Blender, GLB, FBX, and VRM. All models have a variety of premade animations and poses that can be viewed directly in a web browser, without requiring any downloads or additional software.

According to the official blogpost they were designed as low poly for nostalgic aesthetic purposes and greater interoperability with many different platforms. They are fully-rigged with bones for animation, and optimized to run on as many platforms as possible right out of the box.

Concept art for these models were created by mollyismutz, and modeled by frogeater under the direction of ElfJTrul. These models complement the 2D walkcycles for each character.

When asked about the Lore implications behind both 3D and 2D Wizards, Elf said:

Quantum Style Superposition allows wizards to exist in multiple dimensions at once. The multiple dimensions include the 2D pixel dimension, the polygonal 3D dimension, and the Flesh and Blood meatspace dimension, and the myriad materials available to us on this physical plane. It all exists in a Quantum Superposition, Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. When you wield this Meta Meme Magic—and everyone here CAN DO IT—you find the Wizard inside you.

3D Wizards

On August 2nd, 2023 the 3D models for all 10k wizards were released to the public. Initially they were being modeled via commission, but after feeling dissatisfied with the results, Magic Machine opted to create the models in-house.

To celebrate the launch, a special OnCyber Map was created for Wizards to play as their own characters during Wizard Wednesday was made. The room featured The Secret Tower in its center, along with easter eggs around the map such as a pool of Kobold Koolaid and a TV screen playing the animated trailer.

The ground beneath each model has a texture that correlate to the origin of the Wizard (ie. Alchemist Shivra of the Wood has a ground textured to look like woodlands). Additionally, all props and spells were also modeled, with some having unique animations.

3D Souls

On October 25, 2023, Forgotten Runes released 3D models of the Forgotten Souls collection. The official Forgotten Runes account announced the new 3D collection with an video of a few select Souls performing the iconic dance to Michael Jackson's "Thriller". The team planned for the new 3D Souls collection to be playable in the following 2023 Halloween Event "The Nightmare Run" with Improbable, but there was not enough time between the collection's release and the event. However, the Souls were playable, token-gated characters in the 2024 Halloween Event "Might Vs. Magic Battle for Mt. Umbra".

3D Warriors

On October 23, 2024—nearly one year after the release of the 3D Souls collection, Forgotten Runes released 3D models for all 16,000 Warriors. This launch coincided with the 2024 Halloween Event "Might Vs. Magic Battle for Mt. Umbra".
