Lore

Kaiju Bay is the mouth to a realm of gigantic monsters of immense power, and these kaiju bring large-scale destruction when they emerge from their place of rest in the Charybdis Sea. The waters are the only place large enough to hide such monsters. These Kaiju are not thought to be evil, and the massive destruction they cause ensues simply by the nature of their being.

The Seven Legendary Beasts from the Gate to the Seventh Realm are also Kaiju—some call them gods—though it is unlikely that these Beasts hailed originally from this bay before their concealment behind the Gate. They come from another place entirely, but woe unto the Runiverse if these Beasts ever clash with the horrors born in the depths of Kaiju Bay.

Meta Lore

The Bay is a place explore the Kaiju archetype, which is often used as a metaphor of any kind of large-scale destruction. For example, some say that Godzilla is Japan’s metaphor for the Atomic Bomb, but a monster could symbolize any large-scale cataclysm.

In an episode of Wizard Wednesday, Elf said:

"You could take concepts like world war, global pandemics, environmental collapse, and wrap them up in a monster metaphor, which makes for a really fun literary device...I was inspired to call this Kaiju Bay because in media we often see the sea as a source for Kaiju. How many times have we seen Godzilla coming onto land from the sea? Or Cthulhu? Even King Kong is from a lost island somewhere on the ocean...I love how this archetype blurs the line between a god and an overwhelmingly powerful monster."
