The Runiverse

The Runiverse is the primary setting of Forgotten Runes. It is a diverse and expansive world that exists on Earth thousands of years into the future, after the event known as the Technological Singularity (1). As a result, the world became infused with magic, giving rise to Wizards, Warriors, Liches, Zombies, Goblins, Chimeras, and other mythological creatures.

The planet's continents have drifted back into a new Pangea, with geography, climate, wildlife, and even spacetime becoming distorted from the event. Magic and technology coexist in the Runiverse, which is a source of great conflict.

Parts of the Runiverse feel ancient, with minimal or non-existent technology, while others are built upon highly advanced technologies. The Runiverse encompasses motifs, themes, and symbols from fantasy, cyberpunk, steampunk, and science fiction genres. Philosophical tenets of Metamodernism heavily influence this world.

The Runiverse is a real place, existing physically, digitally, and metaphysically. It spans across physical meatspace, the metaverse, cyberspace, Plato's Theory of Forms, the Dream World, Cuckoo Land, the Ether, and the Eternal Void of Absolute Nothingness.
