Wizard Wednesday Episode 76 - February 22, 2023

=

Elf: [00:00:00] It is Wednesday. We're Wizard. We're back returning with Quantum style through the quantum Downs. This is Elf and Dota. Hello. And Bear is late. God knows what he's doing, but I guess we'll just do the show without him. Um, Doda, there was a, uh, resurrection, uh, that recently occurred within the cult. Can you tell us what happened?

It's a

Dotta: special week. It's kind of like, um, wizard Easter. Yeah. And uh, so we'll get there. We'll get there. Let's come back

Elf: to it.

We'll get there. Okay. It's, it's, I think Donna doesn't want to talk about it yet cuz [00:01:00] uh, there's a little bit of shame involved, but I'm here to tell him Yeah, to not be ashamed. It's the pain. It's all good. Um, but yeah, we've got a huge show today. We've got a special guest later. Um, I want to give a 3D update.

We've got cult questions. Um, and I also want to address the, uh, the Russian goblins that, uh, have infiltrated recently. Um, but maybe I'm not gonna do that unless I see one of them try to come on stage today, so we'll see.

But, uh, yeah, I, I, God, I don't even feel good about starting without Baird. Does anyone know where he is at?

Dotta: Oh, he'll make it. He'll make it.

Elf: Um, okay. Well, yeah. Um. I guess I'll, I'll, I'll just start off with, uh, we updated the website recently. I don't know how many people noticed. [00:02:00] Um, it is an ongoing effort, so it's not done, but I would say it's much better now.

It's a little cleaner. We've got a nicer font. Um, um, and, and I think like the next big thing is we're gonna have a much better, uh, I guess, character page. Um, and, and then, uh, the book of lore is also gonna get a major facelift, um, because one of the things we wanna do is right after Goblin Town, um, we're gonna start building the staking tool that we've been talking about.

Uh, and the book of lore will interact with that. Um, so that's just sort of why we're holding off on major book of law updates.

Dotta: Yeah, the book of law has so much that can be done with it. I think that it's just that like everything about your character can be on that page. I think that, like Forgotten Market does a really good [00:03:00] job of, of this in terms of showing, um, you know, the walk cycles and, you know, you can even find like the, the, the, the noun for a particular wizard.

And I think we wanna integrate a lot of that, right? Because we'll have, you know, the, the walk cycles, we'll have the, the 3D wizards and you'll wanna be able to have like a little kind of app where you can walk around or at least explore it in 3D as well. Um, you know, the, the staking infrastructure will be called like questing, and so you'll be able to have kind of the records of the quest that you went on.

I think we'll probably loosen up the kind of, um, the, the book. Um, Sch Amorphism and, and make it look a bit more like a regular page so you can kind of read all the Lord just by scrolling a bit easier. So just so many changes that we wanna do there in terms of like everything from stories to stats, and it's gonna look really good.

Elf: Uh, look who decided to show up. [00:04:00] Hey, I

Bearsnake: thought it was Thursday. Just kidding. Hi guys. What's up? Hey.

Elf: Bear. Uh, I'm so glad you're here. Um, liar. I think one of the exciting things that's happening in your world is you've been planning a, uh, a smallish get together in LA next

Bearsnake: month. Oh gosh. Yeah. Well, so it was going to be not so smallish and quite large, um, but coming out of the San Francisco trip and, and juggling a couple other things that I think will, will hit in March, uh, you know, uh, producing like a 1500 person party just didn't seem like the proper thing to do.

But yes, we, um, we would definitely have a get together. Um, it'll be fun. Um, the vibes will be high. I know that there's some plum people coming into town, uh, and there's already a bunch of people, uh, in, in the greater Los Angeles area who will be attending. So yeah. Uh, more details [00:05:00] to come, but we will definitely have.

A date, a time, and a place to all hang out and enjoy each other's magic. So, uh, yeah. So just keep a lookout the next couple weeks.

Dotta: When, when is that happening?

Bearsnake: It is the week of March 20th, so, um, that's 20, the 20th is a Monday. So like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday is kind of when like this conference is happening.

Um, but I'm, I think it's probably gonna be on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. So the 20th, 21st or 22nd. Also a little chip on my shoulder. I don't even know if, if I told you two guys, but I got an email from N F T L A or whatever they're calling it, um, about like, Hey, we would love for you to come speak at the, at the conference.

Um, as long as you like pay a sponsorship fee and so

Elf: much is fee.

Bearsnake: Well, I'm trying to get it out of them [00:06:00] cause I'm trying to just like, Just keep it going. Cause I, I really want to publish the entire email chain. Cause I just think it is so obnoxious and ass backwards

Dotta: to like, to like have

Bearsnake: a pay to play situation.

It's like Yeah. Like we totally wanna educate the community. Um, but if you want to say anything, you have to pay us money. It's like, oh Jesus. Like no wonder everybody hates these conferences.

Elf: Awesome. Well yeah. That's, that's why we do our own event. Um, yeah. But, but yeah, I mean, so yeah, it's, it's, it's the week of March 20th through 24th. We don't know the exact day we'll have a get together and it's not gonna be anything like the party we held in New York last year, but, um, it should be fun.

Yeah. Maybe I'll come and Dotas probably not gonna be there.

Dotta: No. Maybe I'll come, I'm sitting here thinking, oh, that could be fun.

Bearsnake: Oh wow. Dota is, Doda gonna grace us.

Dotta: I miss you guys. It's not about gracing, it's [00:07:00] just I'm like lazy. I don't like being on a plane. Yeah.

Bearsnake: Well, you can always take a train. Okay.

Dotta: Yeah.

Elf: Um, awesome. Well, yeah, so I know a lot of people just always ask like, when's the next meetup? And, and I think like, it sounds like this is most likely gonna happen. Um, so yeah, more details to come on that. Uh, let's see. You've got a bunch of

Dotta: cult questions.

Bearsnake: Way el it feels like energy's really low. Can you like, pick it up a little bit?

Jesus,

Dotta: you know Yeah. We were wondering where you were. We just, we just missed you. We missed your energy. Yeah, we're running on 66%. Yeah. Your fault. Ok. Well, 69%. What?

Bearsnake: 60? We're running on 69%. Um, what was the, what was the song you guys played at the top?

Elf: Oh, it was Return of the Match and it was relevant because we just had a wizard return from the dead.

Oh, that's right. Yeah. I'm sure people [00:08:00] see Clever that I was knocking on Heaven's Door.

Bearsnake: Yeah. All lets

Cult Member: talk, let's

Elf: talk about it. Well, what doesn't wanna talk about it just yet? Let me go over some cult questions first. Okay. We'll do some cult questions, then we'll talk about it. Okay. Um, so Wild Ma was asking about Warriors with no weapons and no shield. Um, and Wild Ma said that we talked about this before, but I actually don't remember talking about this.

Do you guys remember talking about that?

Dotta: Warriors that have no weapon or shield.

Elf: Yeah.

Dotta: Uh, I don't know. I don't

Elf: remember. Okay. So I might contradict whatever I said earlier if I did indeed say anything at all. Um, I mean, the only thing I can What's that? That's the nature of history. Yeah. And that's the nature of our project.

Um, uh, yeah. I mean, I don't know. What [00:09:00] more can I say beyond? They're just bad asses who don't need a weapon or a shield. They use their fricking bare hands. Um, that's, that's about it. Uh, yeah. Uh, I don't know. I guess I would ask like, donor, what happens if you take a warrior with no weapon to the forge in a gold piece?

Does anything happen?

Dotta: No. Nothing. Doesn't ha nothing happens. There's no golden hands. You just No golden hands. No. No golden hands.

Elf: Okay, wild Ma, I hope that, uh, answer did not disappoint you. Um, but I'm gonna move on from that. Uh, flow is asking a very pertinent question. Uh, when will all the 3D models be out?

Okay, this is a great question. Um, I told bear that they would be done early March, uh, but I lied to bear all the time, so that's not a guarantee. It's

Dotta: uh, yeah. Um,

Bearsnake: literally there's zero truth coming from his mouth constantly. [00:10:00]

Elf: Um, but you know, maybe middle to late March sounds like doable. If not early March.

I mean, early March might happen as well. Um, wait, is

Bearsnake: this like a tactics just say March? So I don't, is this a tactic? I don't get angry. This is, you're telling everybody on Wizard Wednesday that you're gonna be late. What

Dotta: the hell? The, you can already download a bunch of the models from the book of law.

Totally. I tweeted out why Sam earlier today,

Bearsnake: don't defend El. Don't defend all. We gotta, we gotta, we gotta pin them up.

Dotta: We just got some really cool previews from Nifty Island today. I don't think that they've shared them yet and I can't wait for them to do it. Um, frog Eater has been playing out with the models in Unreal Engine.

I've been super impressed with Unreal Engine. I mean, that's ridiculous to say because they're the best in the business, but whatever. I'm just slow to the game. Um, I think like, especially like playing Hogwarts legacy lately and then just seeing just how incredible the lighting, the graphics, everything is.

I really, really love [00:11:00] Unreal. And so we're starting to get a bit better at that internally at Magic Machine. So yeah, the, the 3D models are just incredible.

Elf: Yeah, let me, let me actually just give my 3D update now. Um, so first I just, I just wanna thank all the alpha testers from that last round. Um, like Night Al Birdman and Taba and, um, Tabitha and everybody.

We distributed those models to, um, seeing all those tests, uh, really helped. Um, and so right now we're just making tweaks based on, uh, those tests that we saw. There was just a few mistakes here and there. Um, so currently the V2 of those rigs, uh, are in production. Um, I know a lot of you have dmd, me asking for your rig.

Uh, those are still in the queue. We're just putting the adjustments that we learned from the alpha release. Uh, we're putting those on the next round. Um, But yeah, I mean, 3D is just one of the most [00:12:00] exciting things. It's literally gonna add a whole new dimension to the project. There's so many freaking exciting things that these are gonna be used for.

Um, and this just kind of speaks to my favorite thing about this whole space. Uh, it's, it's not just collaboration with all the other projects, it's, it's interoperability. Um, and so maybe as, as a holder out there, you feel like it's maybe slow. You're not seeing the promises that all these metaverse builders made in 2021 and 2022.

But I can tell you, I've, I'm seeing behind the scenes, I'm seeing the builders. We talk to so many teams that we're collaborating with daily, um, and they are freaking building. They're building some amazing things. I mean, just like, like, I think literally three times, just this morning, I was like, in all caps, this is freaking amazing to like three separate teams.[00:13:00]

Um, and I just like, It, we're all building this like one giant video game. Um, because cuz it's all connected on the same base layer. Um, and, and, and our team Magic machine is like busy prepping your character token so that they can be deployed into this giant metagame. Um, and so I think just like in the next year or two, we're gonna start seeing all of this stuff roll out.

It's gonna be this Cambrian explosion that just, it's gonna feel exponential. I can see it coming. It feels slow now, but it's gonna start cascading at an insane rate. Yeah. Um, and, and you don't have to be like a 3D software professional to use these, everyone in the cult should be able to use them. Um, and yeah, I mean, nifty Island is just one of many.

They, they just showed us a, a demo today. It's fricking phenomenal. [00:14:00] And, and they're just one team. Um, so anyway, I just, I I, I'm so excited about 3d.

Dotta: Yeah, I love it. It's just, that's a key part of our strategy, which is to develop like the IP and the assets around these characters and to be able to make these assets usable in any, any platform.

You know, like we eventually wanna have kind of our own, let's say 3D playground. I don't, I don't wanna call it a metaverse, but like our own 3D like infrastructure so we can release 3D style, um, like games and experiences, like we'll do that eventually, but at the same time, there's a lot of teams who are like entirely focused on that.

So NIF beyond's the, a perfect example, but there's a handful of others. And so like, by, by making sure that, like, what I'm seeing some projects do, for example, is either because the, um, Because they're all basically the same character, just with like different costumes. Um, or because they're just trying to get it out very fast.

You're seeing these relatively like low quality, like they might have high quality like vector art on opens sea, but then the 3D model just [00:15:00] looks kind of cheap. And, um, and so we're taking the approach of where these models that we issue are like very high quality, very well optimized. I mean, elf is like extremely talented in this like, art of kind of, um, having, creating this minimal style 3d, um, character.

He is been doing it for forever. And then of course has brought on people who have that same vision and ability. And so it's just great for us to, to like get these out into the world. And I'm like very happy to. Well, I just wanna, I want us to focus on like the characters and then the world and the story, and then we'll let other people kind of build metaverses around it.

Elf: Yeah. And just the, I, uh, people are asking about souls. Um, and so like, You know, first of all, as far as 3D is concerned, as soon as the wizards are done, we're immediately doing 3D Souls. Um, I, I don't expect it to take as long as the Wizards because number one, that collection is smaller. And number two, it's, um, a, a lot of the souls art is [00:16:00] just a modification of the existing wizard art.

Um, but, but then just further on the souls, um, I, I just wanna say, like I, I've heard that some people don't feel like we give souls enough attention. Um, which on the one hand I get that maybe we don't talk about souls as much, and like 90% of our branding and discussion is about wizards. But the truth is, like souls have just as much or more utility a as token utility as the wizards.

They, they got way more in boxes on Halloween. They have the walk cycles, they have book of lower access, they have everything the Wizards have, and they're more rare. Um, And I can tell you that like some of the souls are gonna have, they, they currently have major roles in the, uh, the current script for the TV show.

Um, yes. And then also did you see that freaking lit t-shirt? It was amazing. Um, but, but yeah, I mean maybe we don't, we talk about wizards more, but you know, the souls are like transcended wizards. They're, they're, they, they [00:17:00] have just as much or more utility than wizards, even if it's only on Halloween. Um, so I dunno.

Dotta: Yeah, no, totally. Like I think one of the reasons that it gets interpreted that like, oh, Doto always forgets souls is because it's just, to me they're, um, just the same that the souls are the souls of wizards. And so I'll be like, oh, wizards get this, wizards get that. And in my mind it's always like, souls are always included in that.

Like the souls are the souls of wizards. The warriors are something else.

Elf: Yep. Agreed. Um, Juan Snow, uh, hello? Did you have a question? What? Speaking of souls. Hello?

Dotta: Yeah.

Elf: Oh, sorry. I think that was an accident. I have you guys in my pocket, but I'm listening. Oh,

Dotta: I'm happy to have you up here. Sorry about that. No, no, no, not at all.

Elf: Um, okay. Yeah, so anyway, to answer Flo's question, I'm hoping March is when all the 3D wizards will be done. [00:18:00] Uh, Tanya is asking, um, is asking about the goblin town Scre list.

Uh, and she's basically asking should cult members try to get on the screen list? No, no. They're gonna get airdrops. And so like, will the screw list stack on top of the airdrop? They already get?

Dotta: No, just, you are fine. If you're a holder, you're fine. Don't, that's not. We have enough people trying to get on the screen list, like we'll take care of you.

Elf: Okay. All right. Yeah, yeah. Don't worry about the screen list, Tanya. Um, okay. Uh, Snoop. Doug is asking, okay, bear, this is a question for you. I'm gonna leave it to you. How much you want to answer, uh, when comic issue one.

You there Bear

Bear's Not here.

Dotta: Uh, okay. Well, I can, I [00:19:00] can answer and say that, uh, uh, for bear, I'll say this, that um, we are working on getting a publishing deal that is very close, um, and. One of the consequences of that is, well, it's very good because then we'll have sort of like broader reach, broader distribution. You can kind of like package them up into a book and sell them in like bookstores in retail.

Um, but at the same time, that also means the lead times are a bit longer. And so, um, depending on how that goes, we are maybe looking at like the fall, for example, before the next issue is released. But at the same time, if we get a deal, we have to be able to release on a regular cadence, uh, on order of like once per month.

And so part of our strategy is that we're kind of like front loading the production, um, over the next few months so that we can like, get, you know, sort of this like, um, [00:20:00] regular retail broad distribution deal. And then, and then we'll have this regular cadence of release. So bear, if you're back, maybe you could correct me or, or tell.

No,

Bearsnake: this is great. I would love for you to feel my questions, uh, in the future going forward. No, that was, that, that's totally right. I mean, I. I actually have the deal staring at me on the computer and just making sure it's exactly what it needs to be. And, and yeah, I mean, I, I, I was, you know, I don't know if it's like getting into too much detail, but I, I was actually shocked to know how long the lead time is to get, uh, comics out there.

It's, it's, it's quite, it's quite long. Um, and so, yeah, it's probably, it's probably early fall, I wanna say. Um, but from there, it's just, you know, every single month, uh, we'll be releasing a new one. Um, and yeah, feel really good about, I think, I think you'll be really excited, um, and hopefully impressed with the level of publisher that we have.

And, you know, they handle some of the [00:21:00] biggest ip, something else that they do that they, um, specialize in is, uh, gaming ip, uh, uh, for books. So I think they, they really understand what we're doing and. You know, as, as we talked over the past couple months, I think they realized just, um, really what we're trying to do here and, and how much, uh, traction we have.

So it's, you know, the conversation has been getting better and better. And, uh, yeah, I mean, it's gonna be, I just can't wait until I get to step, until I get Barnes and Noble and see one of our soft back graphic novels of some of the packaged comics, uh, sitting on the shelf. How exciting would that be?

Really cool.

Dotta: Yeah. On the one hand, like I, you know, it's a little bit sad that that, not sad, but like, it's like I'm impatient that it won't be until, like, fall, winter before they're published. On the other hand, I don't really feel that like, um, N F T DJs care about comics that much. A comic, a comic is like nominally something that a lot of [00:22:00] people do, and it, like, I haven't really seen it sort of like move markets.

So in that sense, it's, it's a very much like a longer term play anyway, so it's like, fine, if it's in the fall, we'll all still wanna read them in fall. They look incredible. They look incredible. I'm just riveted by every page that I see.

Elf: Dota, Snoop, Doug clearly cares about the comic. Well, I care about the comic too, but I just No, I, I'm just kidding.

I'm, I'm kidding. I'm kidding.

Dotta: Yeah, they're like, it's not like people are always looking for a catalyst or something. Right. And it's like, you know.

Elf: Yeah, yeah. No, no, no. Listen, I. I get what you're saying. Like, I don't care about the DJs though. I, I care about the people who like NFTs for the real reason. I mean, whatever.

That's a whole other conversation. You know, one thing interesting about the comic though is like we at Magic Machine find ourselves in this really strange middle ground territory where we want to reach out to mainstream audiences. We want to evangelize crypto and NFTs, but [00:23:00] also we like sometimes feel like we have to hide the N F T component to appeal to these mainstream audiences just because.

That's just where the mainstream is now. Um, so, so we're, you know, we're trying to walk this really fine line.

Bearsnake: Oh, I'm so happy you brought that up, because yeah, there's, there's conflicting forces, right? I mean, I think we even, you know, as well as, um, we were received at both Comic Cons. You know, we had Coinbase, uh, who bought the back cover ad, you know, and, and there were a handful of people like, oh, it's crypto.

And, and so there's, there's this push and pull of, you know, bringing in our friends projects and helping give them a platform to talk about whatever they're doing in, in the comic book. But yeah, I think we, we just need to tread a little bit lightly. Um, and also just back to the publisher. I think the one thing that we get beyond just giving Riley and the whole comic book team more time to sort of get all these books ready to go so we can hit that monthly cadence.

Is, is like we're gonna bring in this, publisher's gonna like bring [00:24:00] in beyond Riley, who's the superstar in and of himself, but we're gonna bring in other sort of really well-known comic artists to do cover variants. Um, uh, we don't know exactly who that is, but I think part of, part of being in business with a publisher like this, it gives us access.

Um, and so getting these other, you know, more traditional comic book artists, I think gives us more validity in the space, which is exciting. And then, you know, they also have all these avenues of people who review comic books and, and sort of help bring awareness to, to new series that are coming out. Um, so instead of me sort of just scouring the internet and trying to find people, uh, you know, this is what they do every single day.

They're professionals are ex, they're experts and we get to just like plug right in. So I think it's, I think we're set up for, for a lot of

Cult Member: success.

Elf: Yep. Um, okay. And then Snoop had another question about the universe land sales. Snoop, I'm just gonna [00:25:00] paraphrase your question. Um, so he's like sort of asking about, he, he's speculating that the land sale in the univer might be different from land sales and other metas. And, and the distinction he's making is that other land plots, um, the market is driven by the resources that those plots offer.

And he's wondering if like the land in the universe, uh, will, the market will be driven more by lore, um, and story, uh, and culture and like the, the who is like on the neighboring plots. Um, and, and if that's the case, Will the marketplace focus more on that instead of just resources? Yeah. So lemme talk about this.

Yeah, go for it. So

Dotta: I, to me, it's very hard for me to predict what the market is going to be driven [00:26:00] by. Right. I do think that like, there is an aspect of crypto, the default aspect of crypto is to rationalize everything. And a lot of the people that, um, account for the majority of the volume in these marketplaces tend to be very numbers driven and accounting for resources, uh, and the economic utility of them definitely feels like something that will always be a major driver, even in the universal land sale.

Right. So, like, it's hard for me to say that like the lore, uh, that the lore will win out in terms of numbers when like it's really numbers driven, people that drive numbers. So, I don't really know is my answer, but I would, I, my gut would say that probably resources will be a major factor in, um, in the market.

At the same time, one of the things that you'll notice drop more, um, specific snapshots of the,

you get this sense this, this sense of a [00:27:00] place that like when I, when by Sonic shows us the map of the universe and they're like

thorn. Um, this is like frog map. It, it comes alive in the sense of being like a specific, uh, place because they've, um, kind of, uh, built landmarks and set pieces and the towns are not set on a grid, right? We're not talking about islands that are floating in a grid. We're not talking about like a big map where

squares and then everyone owns those squares. No, they've actually. Hand painted map looks like the map of that, that we're all quite familiar with. So it's all laid out in the same way. And so I do think that you will have, an important part of this game is basically like, um, the actual location of where you wanna live.

Like, do you wanna live in the tundra or do you wanna live by the sea? Right? Um, and, and do you wanna live by a city or do you wanna live out in the forest? And [00:28:00] so all of those things will certainly like, play a part in terms of how you think about your character, the stories you want, um, to be told about them.

So, um, you know, economically there are still resources, but the, the, the towns exist in a location in the univer.

Bearsnake: Can I, can I add onto that real fast? Of course. Yeah. So I, I think, you know, and this is what every single project is trying to do that has aspirations to go beyond the handful of people who are in web three today is like this idea of like, how do you speak to the rest of the world?

And obviously, you know, we're, we're, we're, we have a couple shots and swings at trying to do that. I think with the game specifically, um, you know, it, it, there's two groups of people. There's like native crypto, native web three, and then there's everybody else and, you know, web two gamers. And I think the way we have to juggle how we approach that, and, and it's just like the comic book.

If you go too [00:29:00] hard on the tokens, um, then, you know, it just feels like a, a d five protocol with pictures. Right. Um, and if you go too hard in. Sort of not interacting with the blockchain, then it just feels like a regular game. And what are you doing? You're not really pushing anything, any, anything novel forward.

And so I think, um, I think the way we think about it is we want to approach the core audience, of course the cult and everybody who's sort of inside this, this Web three bubble first. Um, and then as we get closer to rolling out the actual beta, um, towards the back half of the year, I think then we kind of need to pivot our messaging, um, to a group of people who are really more about the game itself and the game play.

And then have them come in and have as, as little friction as possible so they can just enjoy playing a game, and then they can sort of uncover this new layer of, of, of, of what's possible, uh, while they [00:30:00] engage with the blockchain. So, you know, no one's done this successfully. I mean, you know, Gabe did the, uh, Superbowl commercial.

I'll, I'll hold my thoughts on how I think that went. Um, but you know, this is all, again, experiment within an experiment. But I think, I think we start with the people who understand who we are, um, and who will probably lean into the, the resources in the land. And then I think we, and then I think we turn, I pivot into Web two gamers.

In my opinion,

Elf: bear, I love that you just compared our land sale to the ridiculous Superbowl antics by that Gabe guy.

Bearsnake: I mean, I, I, uh, I'm joking. Okay.

Dotta: No, no, fine.

Bearsnake: I just, when I scanned that QR code and it took me to his Twitter, I almost passed out from, from anger. I, I, I, I just couldn't believe it.

Elf: No, you, you guys gotta understand.

After that happened, bear was like raging in [00:31:00] the magic machine. Discord. Um, it was great. Oh, and we lost Doda. Man. You guys need to fix your internets today. Um,

Bearsnake: you control the quantum shadow. Yeah. Um, you know, the real problem is El el The real problem is I get so many phone calls that when someone calls me and I decline it, it, it doesn't let me back into the space.

It's awful. Yeah, that's, so, that's why I should never,

Elf: that's pretty annoying. Um, okay. I hope do's back. Uh, yeah, I mean, I'm just gonna add on to the land sale thing. I, I have this dream scenario in my head where, uh, like not only are the web three people in the cult playing the game, but it brings in a huge web two audience who just love gaming.

The dream scenario is, That each one of those people converts, they suddenly realize, oh wow. All these assets that I've gathered and created [00:32:00] and been playing with are now tokens that I can trade on. The open market like that scenario is, is the dream. I mean, that's the kind of evangelism I think every crypto project needs to pursue as much as they can.

Um, and I really hope the BU does that.

Um, okay. Do, are you back? Can you speak? Yep. Hey. Cool. Uh, here's a really important cult question. Uh, retired yield farmer is asking, who is your favorite wizard holder and why is it r y f? Uh, good question, dude. Um, in all honesty, uh, if I made a top 10 list, r y f, you would definitely be on it, let's put it that way.

Um, as far as I'm concerned, uh, r y f is building an incredible, uh, game. Um, if you wanna know about that, just follows the follow the lock, uh, lox Lee's Oracle Twitter account. Um, r y f is a beastmaster, R [00:33:00] y f uh, is a prominent member of the HowDo. He's been in the cult for almost a, probably over a year. I mean, who doesn't love r y f Doda Bear opinions on R Y F.

He's handsome.

Bearsnake: He's handsome. He's freaking handsome. Intelligent. Yeah. I mean, this guy. What a

Dotta: stu, what a Chad.

Elf: Um, so yeah. Uh, thanks for the question. R y f um, Doda, this question is for you, and it's from Shear shear. Robert, I guess, is his new name. Uh, Doda. Mm-hmm. When you clicked on the Hall of Cats by accident in quotes, Uhhuh, uh, did you enjoy your brief visit? Was it secretly something you wanted to do? And do you hate Kesh like the rest of us?

Okay, so one,

Dotta: it was entirely by accident. Two, I was not expecting all of the eighties, uh, [00:34:00] workout gifts, uh, and three, no, I like cash. I'm, uh, I, I don't have a problem with cash.

Bearsnake: That makes one of

Dotta: us, um,

Bearsnake: I feel like do, hold on, hold on. Go. Can I feel like you shouldn't be, you should be blocked from going to the Hall of Cats.

I'd never want you to see what's happening in there ever. Yeah. But it's out of, but it's out of love. Thank you. Can we block you? I'm gonna take, I'm gonna make sures spz like builds a bot. You can't, you can't go in there.

Dotta: Yeah, you'll have to. Okay. I don't

Elf: want it to get beheaded.

Well, well then you better stay outta the h. Um, so, okay, I'm gonna bring our guest up. Uh, let's see if he's getting my, uh, request. Um, we talked about Nifty League. Yeah. Nifty League. [00:35:00] Yep. Are they coming up? I think so. Oh. Yep. There's BOLO Dave. Um, So, so yeah, I just wanna give a quick intro. Um, nifty League is one of those teams that just stuns me with how much they build.

Mm-hmm. Um, earlier I was talking about the interoperability and the collaboration of the Metaverse and why it's freaking awesome. Um, and, and Nifty League is one of those teams that gets it. Um, I mean, honestly, I can't think of another team that has built as much as they have, and I'm including forgotten rooms in that.

Um, they have like six, like amazing mini games on their websites, on their website, maybe more. Their Mint was amazing. They have comics so good, so good. They recently did a really cool token burn. Their art looks amazing. Their animation looks amazing. I [00:36:00] love their characters. I myself have two that I minted.

During the initial mint, um, way more than that. And, and yeah, I mean, if that's, if that's not enough, like again, they totally understand that we're all building an interoperable metaverse. Um, so BOLO Dave, uh, we just are teed the announcement on our account today, but, uh, welcome to Wizard Wednesday and tell us all about it.

Welcome,

Cult Member: man. Thank you guys so much for having me. Uh, I, I, I'm a huge forgotten Ros fan. I also minted, uh, ROS Day one. Uh, funny story, I actually had to, I was really busy that day and I promised my wife something and I was like, and I was gonna help her with something for work. And I was like, man, but this project I just found forgotten Ruins is minting.

And luckily I kind of snuck down the lapi. Brought it into the office there. And I, I was just about to hop into a meeting somehow. [00:37:00] I got to, you know, mint out about five wizards, and I was like, thank God. And she's like, uh, honey, are, are, are you ready? I was like, oh, yeah, yeah. Totally ready, totally ready.

Elf: Um,

Cult Member: so that's serious.

Seriously, man, I'm just like honored to be here. Um, You guys are just bringing it left and right and just truly humbled by, you know, everything you just said, elf. Uh, and it's crazy because, you know, Dota, I, I was actually chatting with Doda in the nifty lead Discord, like day one. Yeah. And I was like, dude, I was like, Dotas here.

And I, and, and Dota, I got mad respect for you man. And you just keep doing even more and more everything you're doing with Ordinals and uh, just like providing value and information to the space is definitely notice,

Dotta: sir. So, so like one of the, one of the like anchor trading things that I have is this like frontier feeling.

And the frontier feeling is when you, when you, when you sh buy something and you know you're right and then you feel like you're wrong because nobody else is there. And, and [00:38:00] Nifty League was like, clearly that for me because I minted nifty league. So you guys minted in order, right? You started 0, 1, 2, 3, whatever.

And I minted NFTY League number five and I have like two under 10. And I remember when I meant it and I was just like, This project I didn't have inside insider info. I just, I forget fact, it was probably jitsu that told me about it and I was just like, this project is amazing. Nobody is minting it, nobody's talking about it.

Why is that? And like, I, yeah, it was so good that day. I actually minted the number one rarest, uh, degen. I minted the, the one of 10,000. So he has like this like cyborg eye and a big sheet sword. And I didn't realize what I had, actually, this was a year ago, whatever. And so I actually sold it that day for like three eth or something.

And I wish I had held it now in high hindsight. But, uh, all that to say I've loved your project since day one. I think it's, you know, criminally underrated even today. So we're just so happy to have you

Cult Member: man. No, [00:39:00] thanks so much, Doda. And yeah, it, it was a crazy experience, you know, back then. And um, you know, it's kind of weird to say that we're pioneers in this web three gaming front.

But yeah, you know, we truly are just like you guys. And, um, you know, just having that type of respect and, you know, love from you guys is, you know, man, it just means the world because, uh, your, your team is one that just keeps on doing things. And that's what we're just trying to do is like, okay, we actually want to build stuff, but then we actually need to deliver it.

And, um, that's why I'm just so excited about this collab. Uh, we, we really sat as a team and we were like, man, how can we like, offer more value, uh, you know, to other communities? And I think before, you know, people kind of were like, oh, why would you do that? But no, man, this is a, a culture building move for us.

Like we want to bring people in dope projects, like show them what we're doing. And, [00:40:00] you know, give you guys some value. And you guys are a project that we thoroughly respect. And that's really the intention with this is to like, Hey, we are building games, uh, and, and you're actually helping us. Like this tournament is, is gonna be the first one on our new, uh, uh, net code that we just launched.

And it's something that we can actually, like, gather intel, um, kind of see how it goes. Is it more stable? And this was a long, you know, months of work that went into this. And this is all another step because we actually are building a 3D game. With smashers, and that's something we would love to bring the cult along with too.

Cool. So that is like, these are all like the steps that we're trying to do to just bring people, you know, put some eyes on Nifty League and we just love your guys' brand, everything you're about. And, uh, we thought it would be, you know, really fitting in the game if you guys have never played Nifty league, uh, or nifty smashers rather, uh, it's like a pvp, you know, smash [00:41:00] brawler.

And we thought it would be really fitting for the wizard to chuck an exploding jelly donut and the warrior chucks and exploding fish.

Bearsnake: So That's amazing.

Dotta: That's amazing.

Elf: Yeah,

Cult Member: so it's super fun, man. I mean, you know, it's live right now. We just pushed the build. Um, if you look on that main tweet, there is a tournament signup that we're doing and, and.

You know, before you're kind of like, oh man, I'm probably gonna go get op, you know, buy some degens or something. We're splitting this up into two, two divisions. So we have one division that is going to be exclusively for Wizard and Warrior holders. So you'll come in, you'll connect to the dap, um, and this will populate a, the Wizard game skin, which is your, you know, the elfs, uh, uh, wizard right next to me, the the purple guy.

And, uh, and then the, the, the standard warrior that you guys sent us. So, uh, the colors will change, like based on like token id, [00:42:00] it'll get sorted. Um, kind of like, you know, something where we'll divide by four and then what, whatever the remainder is. Um, but yeah, anyway, that's my spiel. We're just,

Elf: I'm not worried about,

Dotta: I'm not worried about being, about being whipped by someone else because I'm just gonna delegate my nifty degen to jitsu and, oh

Elf: yeah, now jitsu's

Cult Member: actually really damn good.

So, I mean, that's like a, I mean, he's, he's, he's been someone that's been with us too for a while. So, uh, it's just super cool to see. Um, you know, we got, we got folks in both collections already.

Elf: Cool. Yeah. Th this trailer, it's, it's up, it's pinned to the top right now. I mean, just the trailer alone, you guys nailed it.

Like, everything you execute is just practically flawless. Um, and, and then just the animations on the Wizard and the Warrior are so fun. Um, the, who's the guy [00:43:00] on your team? His name is Spike something. I, I just wanna give him

Cult Member: some acknowledgement. Yes. Nifty Spike. He's in, he's in South Africa. He's, he's in here right now.

Yeah. He's Mike Scott in here, but Nifty Spike. Yeah. An absolute legend. Um, he and, uh, Ben, another, uh, pixel animator do pretty much everything for us, and they're just killer. It really brings a lot of humor, um, you know, to our games and just a lot of fun. And, uh, I mean, yeah, each one, I think there's about like 250 animations just that we did for the Wizard and then like 250 for the Warrior, which is why it's like so fluid.

Um, and that's why it's time consuming.

Bearsnake: Well, I think this is why we, this is, this is why we get along so well and I think we have such mutual respect is every time you would sort of share new art or animation in, in sort of our, our group chat, it was just so clear that you guys care about the bar that you're shipping out to people.

You hold yourself to the highest [00:44:00] standard. And my God, they're just, it, it's just, it's not easy to do animation like that. So kudos to the team and, uh, I'm excited to get in there and beat Jitsi

Cult Member: Big Love bear. Um, yeah guys, I mean really, I mean, just thanks so much for the platform for letting me come up. I mean, I always try to pop in on Wizard Wednesday.

Um, it's just been so cool to see you guys evolve as well. Uh, we, we just had this fun burning event, so we introduced the hydras. Uh, we're not gonna have those in pixel right now, but, um, yeah, we burned like 800 degens to get there, so it was a massive burn. And, uh, we're, we're really excited as it sets up, you know, uh, our, our nifty verse, we're building a metaverse just like you guys, uh, trying to keep up, man.

That's all we're trying to do, so.

Elf: Awesome, man. We'll just keep building and, uh, that's how you get ahead. I, I just, I'm, I'm excited to build along with you.

Cult Member: Well, thanks so much, man. And yeah, I'm happy to step down now, but just thanks for the [00:45:00] platform. Uh, you know, sh come, come to the Discord, guys. Say what's up.

If you have any questions, you know, it's a really friendly community, so, uh, just, you know, stop by.

Elf: Sweet man.

Bearsnake: Thank you. Good luck. All

Cult Member: excited. Yo. Yeah, thanks Bear. Thanks Doda.

Elf: Thanks Elf. Later. Um, okay, Doda, uh, I'm trying to add you back, um, and I'm glad you're back cuz Now we're gonna address the resurrected elephant in the room.

Uh, Doda, what happened to your burn contract? Okay, so yeah, so let's talk about it. So

Dotta: the, the, the T tldr R is that someone was able to res summon a wizard who was burned, uh, but it won't happen again. So that's the short version. So, um, in order to kind of like explain the, the bug, you're gonna have to let me go over a bit of [00:46:00] math for you and get a bit technical for a second.

The math is not very sophisticated. It's just, uh, addition and subtraction like you might have covered in grade school, but we have to talk about it if we're gonna understand, uh, what happened here. So in the original Wizards minting contract, um, There was a bug, a bug, which we discovered actually after the mint, that, that put fear in my heart.

And that bug was that, um, it used the total supply of wizards as the minting ID for the next wizard that was minted, right? So you start at minting wizard 0 1, 2, 3, all the way up to 10,000, or actually 9,999. Um, you know, it actually turns out that if someone had mint, uh, burned a wizard, cuz there's a burn function in that contract.

If someone had burned a wizard during the mint, then it would've just stalled the mint. The mint would've been broken. No one else could have minted, forgotten ruins would've been over or redo or something terrible. Um, and when the, when I realized that, I was just totally like, uh, [00:47:00] well scared and happy that that didn't happen.

Um, but I'd kind of thought that that portion of the code was sort of, you know, the mint was over and we were, we were in the clear. So this was a bug that we'd actually known about. We'd fixed it in all subsequent mints. Um, but there was a vector that I hadn't thought of before, and it was the following, which was when the wizards were burned to make souls, the total supply of wizards actually goes down.

So you go to nine, uh, 99, 98, 97. And, and what that meant actually is that, um, the Wizards contract was still open for minting and it meant that, um, anytime, so this could have happened in the past actually, anytime that the total supply of Wizards was equal to, um, the idea of a wizard that was burned. You actually could have minted to resurrect that token.

So this has actually been ongoing since the, um, since the mint, which is also equally terrifying. [00:48:00] Um, the exploiter who found this bug had actually used this bug on a bunch of other projects, um, some just before hours. Um, so this idea around just the way that the code lines up, if you burn something and you use the total supply for the next token to mint it, it actually leaves this vulnerability opened.

He, he'd done it to another project just before, and he tried to do it to ours multiple times. And then thankfully, uh, the wizard just below Oberon. Um, It was not a soul. Um, one of the things that could have happened in that moment is if the person who had owned that wizard had burned it into a soul, they could have then resurrected it right again, uh, subsequently after.

So it was a pretty big problem, um, to, to, to create duplication between wizards and souls. And so, um, well, thankfully, uh, for you all alerted me, you pointed it out, we came to the Discord, I was at my computer, um, and we, what we did to, to solve it is we actually turned off the mit. So, um, we do this all the time with all the f with all of the kind of like key [00:49:00] functions in our contracts.

There's, there's basically like a top level, um, function that just says like, Can anyone use the mint right now or not? Um, and we basically set it to so that you can't mint, um, uh, from the contract. So the, if the question is like, will this happen again? Will we have more, uh, wizards resurrected from the sacred flame?

And the answer is no. Um, because we've turned off the mint, so this won't be possible anymore. So, so yeah. So that is your exploit. I am quite unhappy about it because I don't like to be outsmarted. This is actually the first smart contract that I've had, uh, that's exploited. So I'm like feeling sort of awful about that.

Um, but I think, you know, maybe the lore around this is somewhat interesting.

Bearsnake: At least I love you, Doda.

Elf: You should see the reactions in the secret tower right now because I feel exactly the same is what everybody's posting in the secret Tower.

Dotta: Um,

Elf: oh yeah. But, [00:50:00] but yeah, dude, like, don't even worry about it.

Um, Like, honestly, I'm surprised shit like this doesn't happen more often. Um, This is a totally brand new emergent technology. There are black hat hackers who are on our ass 24 7 worldwide. Um, worst things have happened in crypto, and honestly, at the end of the day, it's kind of cool. Um, so yeah, you don't need, you don't need to, uh, publicly flag yourself by

Dotta: any means.

Thanks.

Elf: Um, but your explanation was great. Um, Yeah, I mean, dunno if there's anything more to say about that. Talk about the lore aspect. I mean, I,

Dotta: no, I think like that's the technical aspect. The technical aspect is it happened. This, this wizard is now, uh, come back from the sacred flame. The both the soul, uh, exists as a soul.

And the wizard exists as a wizard. There are now [00:51:00] 10,001, uh, wizard tokens in the universe. We just had this little inflation. And so maybe you talk about how you are thinking about the, the lore aspect, though I know some of it's open-ended with the holders.

Elf: Yeah. I mean, you know, I'm always of course tempted to blame these things on the quantum shadow because that is indeed what caused this.

Um, there is also this amazing quantum synchronicity with the fact that the associated soul has a resurrect, resurrect dodo as it's familiar. Um, coincidence, I think not, uh, You know, it, it's, it, it also just sort of feels like, um, you know, other collectibles in the legacy world, like a baseball card that has some kind of manufacturing error.

Uh, you know, usually those cards, even though they've got like a quote unquote mistake on them, uh, [00:52:00] they're more valuable because of that mistake. They're more unique. Um, so, you know, I think we roll with this. I think we embrace it. I think it's fun. Uh, and whoever owns that wizard basically has a grail right now.

Dotta: Yeah. Did you ever play, oh, shoot, I can't remember the game. It was sort of, uh, is it braid where it was, um, uh, there, the, the mechanic was that you play with your shadow. Uh, you, it's like a Mario game, like a platformer. And, um, what you actually do is it plays a lot with time. And so you would play the round once, um, and then you would reverse time and then play again, uh, using the shadow of yourself, performing those actions at the same time.

Did you ever play this?

Elf: I have not heard, but I

Dotta: want to someone in the secret tower help me out. I'm sure that someone has played this game, I'm pretty sure it's braid, um, by, um, this really [00:53:00] imagine sort of a similar kind of, uh, storyline. You know, it's up to the owners to choose this where, where Obon is sort of the one wizard who was able to survive the sacred flame, but not without leaving a piece of himself behind.

So I'm very, very interested to hear what?

Elf: Yep, it's super cool. Um,

Yeah. So I, uh, we've got a few minutes left. Um, I just wanna touch on Goblin Town real quick. Oh my God. Um, if, if, if we're, if we're done with the resurrect resurrected Oberon,

uh, I think there's rigging again. Um, yeah, I just wanna say that Goblin Town is looking phenomenal, the art team that we have working on it. I just saw some new artwork today. Um, every [00:54:00] time this team shows us art, my reaction is, damn, I can't believe, uh, or, or, I didn't know that we were gonna make a good looking game.

Um, I thought this was just gonna be like a quick DJ like game that sort of plays to the casino on crypto Twitter. But no, this is actually a beautiful game. Um, Bear, are you able to speak on this? We just lost Dota.

I swear you guys. I'm just gonna host Wizard Wednesday by myself from now on. Um, but yeah, goblin Town's looking good. Uh, I don't think Dota will, has Hello? Is yet to give us a, uh, due date. Oh, you're back. Welcome to Wizard Wednesday. Oh.

Dotta: What is going on with my internet today? I don't know.

Elf: Sorry. You and Bear both.

Um, do, do you have any, uh, Golin Town updates? No. [00:55:00] Okay. Awesome. See you later. Um,

Dotta: yeah.

Elf: Uh, and you know what's crazy is we don't even, I don't think we even have any goblins in our, uh, in Wizard Wednesday today trying to ask for questions. Cuz I was gonna roast them in a really fun way today, but they're not even here.

So I guess I'll say my, we still can't,

Dotta: I wanna talk about Braid Moore, which is the, does the designer is Jonathan Blow. So yeah, if you haven't played Jonathan Blow's games. He's just this like, infamous, or not infamous, but just this like legendary game designer. You should play braid. It's amazing.

Elf: Okay, maybe I will.

Yep. Um,

Dotta: so for Goblin Town, we are still working on it. I don't have any good updates. You know, whatever. We'll, we'll airdrop people tokens when it's ready.

Elf: Yeah. I mean, the only update I gave is that amazing piece of art that was shared with us today. How badass was that?

Dotta: Very good. Has we shared that publicly yet?

I don't even know. Um, okay. Well [00:56:00] there, uh, teaser, there's a naked squealing,

Elf: which is jitsu's favorite goblins. Every time he sees, every time he sees a naked goblin, he loses his shit. He just wants to pinch their little buns. Exactly.

Dotta: I

Bearsnake: just love, not that you're so sick of giving updates, because I know you want to just give them the whole game that you're like, whatever. I don't have an update. We're gonna airdrop everybody tokens. That's what it's been reduced to.

Dotta: Yeah. The airdrop is coming. Just wait.

Elf: Yep. Yep. Um, damn guys. This might be the first Wizard or Wednesday where I've totally run out of content three minutes early. Um, that's when you

Dotta: take question quick. Yeah. Come up on

Elf: stage. Quick bear, give us an update from the bear cave. Yeah. We haven't even talked

Dotta: about any lore shout outs or any of that.

Let's do lore shout outs.

Elf: Oh, you mean cult content? [00:57:00]

Bearsnake: Yes, yes, yes. Al cult content.

Elf: Okay. It's not, it's not called lore shout outs. I don't know where you guys have been for the past 72 weeks.

Dotta: I just, I just

Bearsnake: say whatever Dota says.

Elf: Yeah. You know what, uh, damn it. I don't even, I don't even have Tonya's brilliant, uh, cult content chronicle pulled up, but I really should have, um, totally unprepared for this Win Wizard Wednesday.

I don't know at the top, off the top of your head, can you guys recall any amazing cult content from this week? Besides, yeah, the Kelpie.

Dotta: How about the's Kelpie waves? I'm gonna put the Kelpie waves. I'm gonna pin so many.

Bearsnake: Are you talking about the kelpie? Um, from the, the artist? The

Dotta: higher res picture? Yeah.

From the artist that didn't credit us, but whatever. They still look amazing. Yeah.

Bearsnake: Should we tell him a story about

Dotta: pba? Did a piece, uh, about Dr. Slurp [00:58:00] with the, uh, um, incredible, uh, bass playing wolf. Daniela Ra has a sketch from one of Henry Boyd's wizards. Um, let's see here. Oh,

Elf: oh, battle Ma Bullock did a really awesome 3D render. That's looking awesome. There we go. Tanya's

Dotta: got it shared. Why

Elf: don't we have

Dotta: Tanya come up? Tanya, you're here. Come up. Why don't you go over? How do we invite you on stage? I'm not a host. Get up here. Hey, Tanya. Tanya, come up here and go over the

Elf: dude.

You're putting her on the spot. She does. That's right.

Bearsnake: Ok. Wants you Don't want you don't have wants. She wants to. I can tell. Look at, look at that wolf head, Tanya. We're not closing the space until you come up here.

Elf: No. Only if she wants to. Hey, I actually have one more thing I wanna, I wanna talk about, uh, bitcoin ordinals and, no, I'm not joking.

The only thing I wanna say about it is, [00:59:00] um, I gotta say it is honestly, uh, brought a lot of attention to the cult. Um, that's what I've noticed anyway. Uh, which was like a big reason you did it right. Doda.

God. Oh my god. We lost doda again. This is the most clumsy wizard Wednesday ever.

Uh, Tanya. Hello. Save us the quantum shadow. Quantum shadow is rolled overseas.

Bearsnake: Is someone whispering Quantum shadow?

Dotta: Yeah.

Elf: Yeah. Ashley, the quantum shadow is plaguing us. Uh, Tanya. Hello? Hello?

Dotta: Hello? Hi.

Elf: Um, we love the cult content Chronicle. Um, any standouts for you from last week?

Dotta: Hello?

Bearsnake: Um, [01:00:00]

Dotta: God thing again.

Elf: Oh my God, yes. Do you're, you're gone. I'm kicking off.

Bearsnake: Oh, wow. Doda doda bad. Doda

el. This is our one and only chance to boot Doda off the stage.

Elf: Let's do it. Yeah, I'm doing it. I'm, I'm, I'm, uh, I'm muting him. Okay, Tanya. Sorry about that. No worries. Um, okay. Hey, how's it going? Going good. I get nervous on stage. This is,

Yeah, I know, I, you, you totally didn't have to come up. Listen, all I wanna say is I love the cult Chronicle Chronicle. Everybody loves the Cult Chronicle. Um, it honestly saves me a lot of effort in the morning, uh, before Wizard Wednesday, cuz uh, you're compiling all the great content for me. Uh, and yet this week I whiffed and totally forgot to bring [01:01:00] it up.
