Chronomancer Magic Theory
Magic is defined by the Chronomancers as the temporary removal of causality from a location or situation.
Human experience of causality, or the relationship between cause and effect, binds humanity to the expectation that as time moves forward an action results in an effect but there is nothing that requires this to be so. In fact the idea of a Big Bang or a starting point for the Runiverse as a scientific concept implies this was not always true.
If there is a way to remove causality in a controlled way then in theory anything would be possible. The problem would be reducing the infinite size of that ‘anything’ to the single desired result. It would be dangerous to try and would mess with the minds of any wizards that tried unsuccessfully.
There is also the concept of the singularity in black holes as points of infinite density. Trapped within the ‘theoretically’ impenetrable prison of an event horizon is the singularity but it’s theoretically possible to have naked singularities where there is no event horizon protecting it.
These would be places where physics and causality would break down and anything would be possible. A potent source of magic if it could be controlled.
There is a rarely spoken chronomancer theory that the event horizon however is not something that keeps us away from a powerful magical prize, it instead it protects the Runiverse from the pure chaos that would occur without causality.
Perhaps the fundamental battle is between the order of causality and the chaos of non-causality?
