Wizard Wednesday Ep. 48. July 27th 2022

Dotta: [00:00:00] Channeling in

Elf: from the quantum Downs. It's Wednesday. We are wizards, and it's time for a weekly cult meeting. Wizard Wednesday. This is your host El j Troll, and I'm joined by

Dotta: Doda and Bear.

Elf: Hello. Welcome everybody. Um, today is a really big show. We've got all kind of random things to talk about. Uh, the, uh, cult in Discord gave us all kinds of questions and we are gonna answer every single one of them to the best of our abilities.

But first, uh, let's just quickly recap our presence at Comic-Con last week. Uh, bear, I heard it was a real success.

Bearsnake: Yeah, the best, one of the best parts was, [00:01:00] uh, I showed up at our booth and uh, lo and behold Tanya was standing there decked out in all of her coat gear. So that was a really nice, it was awesome to see Tanya.

She was awesome. Um, but yeah, we, um, gosh, we had a big street team dressed up in cloaks with ROEs on them. They were actually the same cloaks that we had the street team wearing in New York City during N F T nyc. Um, and we gave out a boat load of comics and, um, reception was really well received. I guess not that surprised.

We're giving away, uh, a really nice looking comic, uh, for free to people who are in town to look at comic books. So,

Dotta: um,

Elf: so that was bear. When you say a boat load, do you have an exact number on that? Yeah, like

Bearsnake: tens and tens of

Elf: thousands. Um, tens and tens. So that sounds like 20,000 comics. [00:02:00]

Dotta: Yeah. Uh, you know, I think it's, yeah,

Bearsnake: it's a lot.

And I know like our, our first estimate was like, oh, we'll give out, um, a hundred thousand at both Comic-Con. It turns out it's really hard to give out a hundred thousand units of anything. So what, so we gave out, uh, around 20,000. That doesn't stop us from giving out the original, like, um, you know, the ultimate number of 225,000.

Like, that's, that's, that's, that's what's printed. So I think it actually, in a good way, it works out because it allows us to go to other events that we think, you know, align with people that would love a comic and love for Got ruins and all the things that we're doing. So we're, we have like a whole entire, um, sort of schedule of other events that we're gonna hit the street team.

But it was really great. I gotta say like, You know, I know that not everybody on the team got to come. It was really just me, I guess. Um, but to like, to see the comics being handed out, I was [00:03:00] even out there on the street handing them out myself and like giving them to kids and giving them to Spider-Man.

And you know, it's just really cool to see people react to, um, one, something that we worked on so hard, but two, just for people to like, um, you know, sort of like not have seen like when when we explained the story of like how the comic came to be and for Roos what it is, people were like legitimately interested.

Um, yeah. And, and I think like they, like the, like the theme was like, You know, it's really nice to see like new, um, brands, you know, new fantasy worlds like being born. Cause you know, it's like, it's, it's something else from them. Chew on something new. And so I thought that was really interesting cuz it's not like they just want to d double down on the Spider-Man's and X-Men and all the Marvel.

Marvel and yeah. Marvel, which is like, you know, they, they deserve to be where they're at. Of course, but

Dotta: Right.

Elf: But like, how many more Marvel comics do you wanna [00:04:00] see when you go to Comic-Con? It's like every year there's more Marvel Comics. Yeah.

Bearsnake: Like new, new characters, new worlds, new stories. And everybody really resonated with like, uh, the idea of like the book of lore and that like, we're implementing, uh, stories that are, are sort of, you know, derived partially from the cult anyway.

So it was really, it was really nice. And then the other, the other, the last thing I'll say is, um, you know, we had a booth, um, at Comic-Con where I, where I saw Tonya with Bliss on Tap, um, comics. And they like printed up this really nice big poster for us. Um, with the cover art there. And then Riley Brown, who did the cover art, who goes to these things all the time, like he was in the, uh, artist, uh, artist alley I think they call it, where he like, you know, people come up to him and he signs, uh, past comics that he is made.

So he came and, and, and was at our booth. And, um, actually I think we can get to it later in the show, but, um, uh, we have a bunch of signed, well, not a bunch, uh, a limited amount of like signed copies from Riley that I think, uh, Locke and team [00:05:00] have some fun stuff cooked up to, to, for people to win. So it was fun.

It was really cool. Really cool.

Dotta: Love it. And I lo, one of the things that I like always get from people, um, is I'm like, oh, you know, we made a comic, I'll like bring you a copy. And they're just like, ok, whatever. And then you hand it to them and they like, they like feel the weight in their hand, right? The first thing is like, you know, they kind of move it up and down and they're like, wow, this is really nice.

And like, I think that that's one of the things I love about being able to give it out is that like, So many times you're walking down the street and someone's handing you a flyer or a postcard or whatever, and you're just like, no thanks. But then like, if you take the Forgotten News comic, you're like, this is actually something that I want and something that I want to keep.

And so, yeah. Um, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what the future holds for issue two, but I like, love that we've been able to do hand up issue one or issue zero, excuse me, I should get my numerology proper. I love what we've been able to do with issue zero. Um, and I don't know if we'll be able to give away issue one, but I'd like to.

I think that, I think it's been great to be able to just like, get it in people's hands.

Elf: Yeah. Well [00:06:00] that, that actually leads into one of the questions. Um, I think Snoop Doug asked about the next comic and um, you know, I'll just, I'll just say that Yes. Issue one, which is the next one. Uh, it's in production, the cover is done and damn it looks good.

Um, yep. The story is written. Uh, yeah, I mean it's, it's just, uh, it's being, it's being drawn right now. Um, so I mean, I don't, I don't know exactly how long that takes, but maybe, maybe bear you have a better idea. Yeah.

Dotta: I

Bearsnake: I think it's, um, it's around like six to eight weeks.

Dotta: Okay.

Elf: Yeah.

Bearsnake: But, but, but you know, of course we always like do fun pages in the comic and you know, now, now Gene's looking at me right now, like, don't you dare say six to eight weeks.

Cause he, he helps handle all those stuff. Yeah. Run away, right? He just ran outside. Um, uh, but yeah, so like the, the, the actual story [00:07:00] pages take about six to eight weeks, but, you know, we, we put all the fun stuff in there too.

Elf: Yeah. Extra pages, extra surprises. Um, but yeah, it's in production.

Dotta: Um, two Crows asked, and he said is comic is comic number two, and I think he means number one, is it a continuation of the first comic or is it an entirely new set of stories?

Elf: Oh, it is a continuation.

Bearsnake: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. So not everybody, and we're gonna solve this, we should talk about later. Not everybody has the comic, but, um, uh, Locke will give an update. We're gonna remedy all anyone who wants a comic, we'll be able to order it. We'll, we'll talk about that later. But the idea behind this, uh, issue zero is that it's a bunch of shorts, like, like almost cold opens, like short stories that like tee off different, different, uh, story threads and then issue 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and I think seven pick up where those individual stories start.

Yeah. And then like 8, 9, 10, like all the story [00:08:00] threads start to come together into, you know, into like, you know, into one piece.

Elf: Yeah. And, and just like on top of that, we like what one of my jobs and what's been really fun for me and the writer is just like finding all these different places to fit cameos of cult wizards and, um, You know, and, and, and, and, and make it work, and not just make it seem like something that's just like thrown on top for no good reason.

Um, and so this next issue, issue one, it's got some really fun cameos that I, I think are really, that really work with the story. Um, so, so that's the comic. Uh, let's jump to another question.

Dotta: Um,

Bearsnake: wait, I actually, hold on for one second. Okay. Yeah. Should, should we have lock? Just talk

Dotta: about, yeah, I was gonna, real fast.

I was gonna go, may as well. Go ahead. Yeah, I feel like, you know, um, it was a bit of a, [00:09:00] uh, little bit of a technical difficulty, uh, with the comics in terms of getting them in the hands of cult members that ordered from the merch. So if you placed a merch order, you will automatically be receiving a comic book in the mail sometime soon.

So just keep an eye on your mailbox, don't, you know, harass your mail person or anything, but just know that it's coming. Um, and uh, this Friday we will be having comics available to order on our site. Uh, you can order up to 10 in one order, but if you have to order more than 10, um, You'll have to go through, um, our, our fulfillment team just so that we can keep a really tight, um, inventory shipped.

Um, and if you've reached out to me about ordering more than 10 comic books, know that your order's being taken care of. And as [00:10:00] soon as we have confirmation of those being shipped, you will receive that. Um, and lastly, as Bear mentioned, we are having a bit a contest. Riley signed 20 copies of the comic that we'll be giving away on Friday.

Uh, the team and I just worked on a really fun 10 day giveaway contest that will happen on Twitter. So just keep your eye out. Um, you'll get an announcement soon, but you know, it'll be something fun that we can all participate in.

Elf: Thanks, luck.

Dotta: Uh, yeah, the, uh, another thing on the comic book, um, you know, Halloween is a few months away and, uh, I would love if some people wanted to, uh, order a stack of comic books and hand 'em out for trick or treat. Like, who wouldn't wanna get a Forgotten Ruins comic in their [00:11:00] trick or treat bag?

Elf: That's a really good

Dotta: idea. It has to come with a giant candy bar though. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. We'll sponsor. Full-size. Full-size name brand. Yeah. Not butterscotch Wraps. Not that disgusting. Or Almond Joy? No. Purple Jolly

Elf: Ranchers or candy corn

Dotta: or black licorice. Yeah. Homemade popcorn balls.

Elf: I, I think we all just said some very controversial things, by the way, where our

Dotta: cult members are gonna come for us with pitchforks, their favorite candies and what have you.

Elf: Yeah. Um, okay. Awesome. Is that all in the. Yes. Yeah. Okay. Okay, great. Uh, okay, other questions? So, Emma asked, um, out of all the different projects you're juggling within Managing Machine, what's your favorite one at the moment?

Um, I will, that's hard. [00:12:00] Yeah. Oh, no, it's really hard. Um, my answer is like, my, my, my ongoing answer will always be the, the TV show. Um, but beyond that, uh, we have some really fun merch things coming out that I'm actually not even gonna talk. Oh. Mm-hmm. But yeah, that, that's my answer. Shut your mouth.

Dotta: Yeah.

Don't, don't open that can of worm. Yeah. I feel like it's a weird time too. Like, we try to not stand up here and like tease all sorts of secrets, but we have, like right now, we have like maybe 20 different things in progress that we are like, not like quite ready to talk about, right? Like, um, even some of these things popped up as questions today, right?

Like, what are we doing with the locks? What are we doing for the holidays? We, how are we the beasts to work? Like, uh, like how, like what are ways that we're gonna reward the cult and, uh, you know, games that we're gonna play, things like that. So, I [00:13:00] think we're working on all these things, but we're not ready to announce the specifics quite yet.

But it's been so much fun to plan, but we did just send the red heels into production to swallow it. Right?

Elf: So true. Sponsored by Luton or however you say that. Oh God, I can't believe you just

Bearsnake: did that. Wow.

Dotta: Lock put in this place. Wow.

Elf: Um, I, I mean, I, I just learned, I learned that from Thesist, from,

um, but yeah, no, so Doda, you touched on another question. Um, people are asking about, like the locks. They're asking about pony burns, pony breeding, sacred flames. Um, you know, again, we're not gonna release specific details yet, but just trust us that all of these things are being in intensely discussed. And, um, there are definite plans for all of these things.

[00:14:00] Um, you know, it, it's like we, like we're already talking about the Halloween and the Christmas events, um, which are right around the corner. So Yeah, I mean, yeah, we, we've got things that are gonna use all these tokens. Is is all I can say right now.

Dotta: Yeah. You know, one of the questions that, uh, someone asked and they said, uh oh, if you, if all of the, if all of the flames are used, will you guys mint out the rest of the soles?

And I thought that was really interesting cuz I think that my answer there is that like, when the flames are used, the soles are finished. Um, yes. So like, there's not gonna be more sos than flames. Um, agree. And so there's no, there's no more sos after the flames are used. And so, oh, speaking of absolutely sick burn, epic burn, burn, sick burn yesterday and today.

Um, Yeah, I don't know. El, you want to talk about that a little bit?

Elf: [00:15:00] Yeah. I mean, the Mask of the Red Death, they, uh oh. With, uh, with the fancy red shoes. Um, I, uh, you know, when, when the mask of the Red Death got revealed, I had no idea that the thing that would stand out the most is the damn red shoes. But, uh,

but. Uh, but I love it. Um, I loved it so much that I even put red shoes on my little goat, so, um, well done. I, the, the first person I saw to mention that in the Discord was Panko, but then I think, uh, why Sam took it to the next level and put the red shoes on the cobalt. Um, and, and then somebody asked like, why is the mask of the Red Death death wearing these shoes?

And, um, you know, I'm just gonna say that like a lot of research goes into this project and, uh, if you look at the time period and you look at the aristocrats of that time and that region, um, you know, min war, very [00:16:00] high-heeled shoes, they were very fancy. Um, so it's, uh, it's a well-researched character.

I'll just say that.

Bearsnake: Um, there's one of the evilest looking. Characters I've

Elf: seen. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's very unique. And, and what's crazy is, uh, Juan Snow, I believe is the, uh, the person who burned that Yeah. Uh, character. So Juan owns the Grim Reaper and the Mask of the Red Death, which is like the two, uh, pretty wild.

Yeah. The two most deathly, uh, souls maybe, but he's earned

Dotta: it. I don't know exactly the number of souls that he burned, uh, like last night and this morning, but it was like a lot like teens, I think. Yeah. Um, and, and, and one of the things that of course people in the burn chat know is that everyone has been, yeah.

Someone in the chat discord saying, you burned 20 last night. Basically, folks, it's just, um, incredible, incredible. And, and, [00:17:00] uh, one of the things that the Burn Chat has been looking so forward to is burn 6 66. Yeah. This idea that we would surely, because we love the numerology, that we would, uh, put this ultra rare in, in, in place 6 66 and, uh, and, and, and, and you know, El you and I, we knew that from the very beginning that people would totally do that then.

Yep. I don't think that we necessarily expected souls to take as long to burn out as it as it did, but we definitely knew that like, If 6 66 was the most rare of the entire collection, it would surely go to like a MEV bot. And we'd had this whole idea around like undesirables and this idea that we've like prefaced all of these things with, with souls that like we never, you know, we never wanted souls to be like a guaranteed upgrade.

You know, we saw this even a couple of weeks ago with, uh, the honorary that was burned. Mm-hmm. Um, that like some honoraries get burned and you get, receive like, you know, a soul of [00:18:00] the honorary, but some honoraries get burned and it's basically like, uh, like a quote unquote regular soul. And so yeah, this idea of like not making 6 66, uh, Uh, uh, uh, an ultra rare was like intentional from day one.

And I, I have to admit, SOLs is like very emotional for me. Even today, like watching some of these, um, wizards be burned. I just like, it hits me in the gut. And then watching people like burn wizards and burn their flames to try to get a soul for 6 66. By the time it got there, I like felt a little bad that 6 66 wasn't a rare, but at the same time, I didn't feel so bad, bad enough to, uh, to make any changes because, you know, that's what you get when you burn a wizard is there's always risk involved.

So

Elf: we, we've said from day one that, uh, this, um, burning magic is very risky, um, and unpredictable. Um, but you know, it's, you, you, you're talking about something that I think we've learned over the year, which is be much more or less obvious with our [00:19:00] numerology plays. Um, cause people were like, Making really, um, how do I wanna put this, um, accurate predictions on the ponies.

Um, and, uh, maybe even the Warriors too. So yeah, I think we're gonna be a little more, um, obscure with our future numerology plays is, um, yep. And then just, just to hit quick, quickly hit uh, two other questions within that, uh, people were asking about pony burning and pony breeding. Um, do we wanna say anything about that yet?

Dotta: Uh, never say never. That's the only thing I wanna say. Fair

Elf: enough. Fair enough. Um, okay. TV asked about Beast season two. Um, great question. My answer for this is, um, we're not even really done with beast season one yet. By, and by that I just [00:20:00] mean like, We've got utility and tokens that we're cooking up for B season one.

Um, and so we don't even wanna do season two until we drop that. Um,

Dotta: that's my reference. Yes. And, and well, and just to clarify, not being done with season B Season one doesn't mean that we are issuing more beasts, right? It's not much. You're not, you're not saying we're releasing beast number eight. Correct.

Like we, the Yes. Yeah. You what, what you're suggesting, which is what we're doing, which is like, we wanna add more, uh, uses for the beasts. And so Yes. That's what I meant. Sorry. Um, yep. No, no, no, that's fine. So I think that this, this idea around, uh, well, that it's good to be a beast holder and that there's ways that you can use it on, on chain games.

Those things are in

Elf: progress. Yep. Yep, exactly. But, but I, I'm also like dying to do B season two. Cause I, there, there's some of my favorite things to draw, but, but yeah, it's not gonna happen until, um, utility for season one. [00:21:00] Um, let's see, uh, oh, Dr. Pop actually gave, uh, put a really great question, um, in there, and this is actually something I've been thinking a lot about before he even asked, um, he said, uh, basically can we use Dow voting to set, uh, Canon?

Um, and I think the example he gave was like, can we vote on like official places on the map? Um, I think this is a really interesting idea. Um, you know, because for example, I was thinking the other day, like, like here's another like silly thing I think we could vote on, which is, um, okay, for the cobalts, for example, uh, the pixel art, they have those little horns, right?

And in the trailer, those are horns, but I think some people are interpreting those as ears. Um, like I think, uh, I think, uh, the one who rings like made a a, a cobal plushie and it looks like he's got ears. [00:22:00] So, you know, this would be like a, a very canonical question. Are they horns or are, are they ears? Um, you know, and I would, I would want to give like more voting power to cobalt holders.

Um, but you know, really it's just, it's just like, it speaks to the bigger question, which is like maybe, yeah, there's some kind of voting mechanism to set these canonical, uh, pieces of lore. Um, what do you think Dota or bear,

Dotta: you're getting quite a reaction out of the discord.

Elf: I'm seeing that Trouble to have.

Dotta: Yeah.

Elf: Um, but yeah. Or, or even matto. I see. You just came up. Do you have anything to, to add or,

Dotta: I guess that I think, well, Matto can speak of course, but um, I guess that, I think that like lore changes, lore, something like that, that like this idea that we kind of vote to change a location on the map, like may be fine, but like I also just think that like the [00:23:00] stories that get told change the truth about how we think about the universe.

Yep. And so, yeah, so like you said, this, this idea of like cobalt's being ears or horns is like you don't need a doubt, vote for that. Everyone just sort of like knows where they stand one way or the other. So, um, I think that like, uh, it really. You, you survive history by telling a more compelling story, not just like voting

Elf: change of name.

Yeah, no, I, I agree. And that's, that's always been my feeling. But I don't know, I just feel like maybe there's certain pieces that might be fun as a vote. Um,

Dotta: well, I do think that actually, you know, because, so for example, the Retcon, um, which by which I mean like. Updating a few names from Wizards, um, on open sea, maybe adding affinities, right?

Maybe changing a couple of the honoraries, uh, names to something that's like more palatable to the entire cult. Those things, I, I honestly do want to do a vote. [00:24:00] Like I actually wanna split it up into maybe four or five different votes, which is like, uh, you know, do we rename these particular honoraries with a more generic collection name, yes or no?

Do we add the affinities to, for wizards to open seat? Yes or no? Right? Like, I don't think that it's like clear. That everybody necessarily wants those. And so, um, you know, one of the biggest things that you and I talk about all the time is that the, um, Venus fly, the, the unicorn horn is labeled Venus Fly Trap.

Yes. Uh, and so like, you know, that bugs us to no end and we wanna change it back. But like Meadows already in, in like made sort of like interesting lore around like how it's, you know, illegal to kill a unicorn. And so they just call it a venous fly trap because of like, you know, they don't want to get in trouble or something.

And so, like maybe that lore in the way that it is, is like deep seated enough that people don't wanna change it. So we should put that up for a vote. And, and, and, and then maybe the vote changes what shows up in open sea, which then changes the lower, so,

Elf: right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's, it's an [00:25:00] interesting idea, Dr.

Pop. Um, you know, especially cuz the Dowd like, like it's, we're still waiting on a bunch of legal stuff and so we don't really have a lot of stuff to vote on yet. So maybe, I don't know, maybe we can. Set this up. Um, Snoop Doug, uh, asks about merch for kids because he's Oh, okay. He's sick of buying Pokemon stuff.

Um, thi so this for me, I think, I think the short answer is yes, definitely. Um, but it also makes me think of this other sort of shift that I've been sort of experiencing in myself, which is like, like in the very beginning of this, I wa I, like my conception of Forgotten Ruins was like totally all adult.

Like, um, like Castlevania on Netflix was like my model to follow for our show. And it, you know, it's got a lot of violence and sexual references and it's, you know, it's very mature. Um, [00:26:00] But now I'm starting to shift into like, like maybe it's not it, I definitely don't want it to be like a totally kids ip, but I do wanna make more kid-friendly stuff.

Um, cuz I know a lot of cult members have kids and, and, and, and, and I, you know, I love giving the comic to kids and like, cuz they, they love it. And I, I wanna, I wanna make, I just wanna make more kids' stuff. I, I know Dota you have some feelings on that?

Dotta: A hundred percent. Yeah. You know, uh, uh, yes. So part of it is just like, it's a couple of things.

One forgotten ruins is like recreating a lot of the things that I just delighted in as a kid. I talk about that all the time. Um, and then, uh, the other part of it is like that I have kids and I like playing with them. And I also like super appreciate. Um, games and movies and stories or whatever that like, we can both enjoy at the same time.

Right. Because I'm like, I'm looking for ways to like spend time with my kids. My kids love the Wizards and like, you know, love creating artwork and doodling about it and [00:27:00] um, you know, we play magic together and all kinds of games together. So, and then I think the other part too is I just like love merch so much.

Um, you know, someone was asking about like back to school merch cause they have like, um, so they don't have to buy Pokemon stuff again. I think that actually was, it was Snoop Dogg, Dr. Papa Snoop and Oh, was Snoop Dogg? Yeah. Yep. Snoop Dogg. Uh, if you're, if you're Snoop Dug or anyone who's like listening in on Discord, I'd be super curious to know like, which merch items do you buy of, like Pokemon or whatever for your kids back to school.

Because I think that actually that even could help us on terms of like, the things that we choose, choose to make, but. I mean, I think that there's like, you know, a marketing nefarious angle that's like kind of, but there's something around like, you know, Disney always gets kids attached to brands, gets like kids attached to brands and then you grow up with it.

And I don't think that has to be necessarily like totally negative, but I like, I, you know, I still am like very fond of kind of the characters that I grew up with cuz it was like a very peaceful, carefree time and sort of, um, and so I [00:28:00] like, I think that it is really important for us to like, have things that kids can enjoy, especially as part of like a community that's like, Wholesome and encourages creativity and encourages creation.

You know, like one of the things that, like when you were at Cal Arts, like I live near there and I, you know, I didn't attend there, but I would like go up and one of the things that I loved about, um, the, the community, the people that I met in Cal Arts was, they were just super high in trait openness and, and being like very encouraging.

Like any time, you know, in my experience there any time that like somebody made something, everyone was like really encouraging about being like, oh, that's really cool. Like, oh, I love how you did this, or I love this color, or I love this, like, aspect about it. Um, and I think that like being a part of a community that's, um, that's uplifting for whatever you.

Create or they're like encouraging, they're, they're default encouraging instead of like, you know, some communities are kind of like default exclusionary, right? Isn't that like the typical [00:29:00] archetype of like the hipster, right? Is that like as soon as more people find out about the thing that they love, they like it less because they like the exclusionary nature of it.

And I feel like Forgotten Ruins is, is the opposite of that in terms of like, anytime anyone creates anything that's like part of our community, we love to see it. And so all that to say, I think it's good to get more kids involved in the cult. Even to the point of like, I don't know if we wanna talk about this, but like for the comic book for example, so like in the comic book we had like some, I dunno how you want to phrase it, let's say like gentle cursing.

And um, I noticed that even when I gave the comic book to like my nieces and nephews where like they don't, you know, that's not part of their family culture. I had to kind of hedge a little bit. I was like, ah, you know, there's just those words in here. I don't know if you guys are ready for that. Like, um, and you know, and then that was something you and I kind of talked about.

Yep.

Bearsnake: I still remember El I remember the moment that I think solidified for it. The, the, the kid thing, um, is when we were at, uh, the Christie's event [00:30:00] in New York and you handed the comic book to a little girl and like there was like a sparkle in your eye and you were like, I just gave it, I just gave this comic book to this little girl.

She loved it. And you were just like, there's something, like some, something triggered

Elf: in your head. I think. Yeah. I mean I could tell that she really liked it, but then I cringed cuz I was like, oh crap. There's like a little, some slightly edgier content in there and I wondered if I should, should have done it.

Um, but I think it was fine. Uh, let's see. Hold on. Uh, maple Dad, you just came up. Do you have anything to, to say? Um, Oh, hey Yang.

Dotta: I just wanna say

Elf: if kids merch, school backpacks and lunch bags are like unbelievably valuable, we, we do them for business and smoke. Do they make, it's, it's wild. People just like see it every day at school and they're like, what is that?

I need one. And it, and it takes over. So. Nice. [00:31:00] That's, that's my big alpha. Nice. Okay. Um, and Matto, you came up a while ago. Did you have something to add?

Dotta: Oh,

Sage Celah of the Steppe: um, nothing particularly

Dotta: to the, to the current composition or anything I want to come up. Um, I'll, I'll speak briefly cause um, well, I, yeah, I'll speak briefly a bit later.

I was gonna talk about how like, uh, my involvement with the universe, but at the, the, I'll mention that a bit later when we have a bit more time. I wanna distract much right now. Sure.

Elf: Um, oh, did you have something to say?

Dotta: Hey, hey, I love the idea of a back to school match. Um, and yet as we talk about all this, like basically monetizing the ip, it always comes up for me the, um, question about royalties.

And I know Dotta shared a little bit more, um, or some teasing tweaks this [00:32:00] week. So I was wondering if there's anything more to share there? Um, yeah. Uh, sort of, so yeah, we actually even had, uh, a meeting with a potential partner this morning about that. Uh, maybe I can speak in kind of high level terms, right?

Okay. So some of the same disclaimers that I put every time I talk about this, right, which is that like. If you start talking about kind of like buying tokens and then you get sort of this passive income based on the efforts of others, then like then you're really edging on this idea of like, uh, US securities laws, which is a problem.

And so I think that, I wanna be very clear that that's not something that, you know, uh, is gonna happen anytime soon without some like bigger regulation changes. That said, um, you know, part of the cult is not actually monetizing based on the efforts of others, but actually monetizing based on the efforts of yourself.

And that like, there actually is like quite a well trodden sort of world of. Um, [00:33:00] monetizing rights, um, within like intellectual property. And so we're working with basically a set of like forward looking partners that like, are looking at, they've like dealt with kind of traditional, um, intellectual property rights and paying royalties to holders and uh, and they also kind of see web three as the future of this sort of like rights management architecture or whatever.

So, you know, I'm a super nerd and like geek out over this kind of thing around like how you can basically like use the, the law and technology to be able to kind of like structure something new that like works for everyone. But the end result is basically we're trying to sketch out both like tool software and a legal framework to make it so that like, um, There is a way to monetize, uh, based on the rights that you hold on the character [00:34:00] that you've developed in the universe.

So, um, you know, one, I don't have, I'm not like not ready to announce all the particulars of the details. We haven't finalized the deal with this team. We haven't worked out like the exact legal documentation. Um, two, I think that like, even when we have that, it's gonna take a little bit of time before there actually is like someone paying for that IP on the other end, right?

Like, even if we have this today where they're like, oh, you know, you sign into this form, sign this legal agreement. Like, you know, you get money if your wizard is used in the show or if you just have a wizard, even if it's not used in the show. Well, we're like still kind of far from the show generating any revenue, like up, you know, up into the point of being like 18 months away before the show generates any revenue.

So, um, you know, I think it'll be a bit of a slow start. On the other hand, this is like clearly the future of like, Um, monetizing characters. It's clear, like the way that I think about it is like if Airbnb lets anyone who like has a spare room, [00:35:00] um, like act like a hotel, like a mini hotel, um, basically what we'll be either doing or partnering with is, is almost like Airbnb for IP rights.

And so far as that, um, you know, even if you own a, like the software that you get from Airbnb makes this whole like, onerous process of like the legal framework and the insurance and the cleaning fees and like the checkout and the listings and like the market making, right? All that software helps make it so that you can compete with a big hotel, even if you just have a room.

And similarly, there's like a stack, a legal and software stack for intellectual property that you'll be able to do with your wizard of, or where your, like, your rooms basically ip, um, to be able to monetize. And also like five a market. For, uh, your character. So we're still very early, right? It's gonna be years before anyone makes serious money there, but it's like so clearly the future in my mind.

So I dunno if that answers your

Elf: question. This Yeah. This is something we are, we talk about all the time. [00:36:00] We want it to be a major feature of the project. It's, it's just like the biggest hurdle is, is all the legal stuff. Um, you know, that takes months and a thousand emails and it's, it's, it's a, it's a legal quagmire, but it's definitely something we're focused

Bearsnake: on.

And also also, not to interrupt, uh, like, I think like what Dota is referencing is, is like, I think we can solve, we can solve how to do it and deploy it, but that doesn't, and we can do that sooner than later. But that doesn't necessarily mean the flow of. Revenue happens immediately, right? Because the, the business has to be firing on all cylinders.

But I think it is, it's a two-step process. It's like figuring it out the framework and then running things through the pipe. I think that's, that's how it will, it will play out. And I do, and I know Dota like tweeted this out and people were talking about it. I do think that like [00:37:00] we're onto, uh, onto a path that will, uh, potentially like set a standard for everybody else in the space.

Yeah. So I like, I don't wanna like, I don't wanna like downplay what we're doing, um, because it, it does feel like, oh wow. Like, I think we figured something out. So I'm, I'm like, I'm just, we're all just so excited about, about where, what it

Dotta: means. Cool. And as you were speaking there, there, it sounds a little bit like, um, there would be like a, a first stage where not all, Revenue streams would lead into this path, and then at a later stage, um, all revenue streams would lead into this path.

So like, say at the beginning, maybe merch wouldn't be included, but then later on it would be, is that what I'm hearing or No,

Bearsnake: I don't, no, I, it's not that. It's more about like, um, [00:38:00] I think it's not about like, individual pieces of the business and like waiting for that to trigger. It's more, I think it, I think the framework would set up everything for it to work day one, but really, you know, it takes, you know, the TV show, right?

Having a, a merchandising business that goes far beyond people in the cult and people in NFTs. Um, you know, it just takes time to build those businesses. So it generates a certain amount of, uh, you talk to me about that of revenue or if that makes sense, just a little bit.

Dotta: Cool. Um, and in terms of like what Doto was saying about, it's kind of based on work done.

Um, is there any way you can speak to waiting of, um, royalty distribution in relation to number of tokens held or amount of law written or anything like that? Or is that, is [00:39:00] it too early to say? I think it's too early. Yeah. I think it's too early. Too early to say. Yeah. The, the, um, yeah, it's too early because there's just so many, like, you know, there's just so many different things, right.

Like, but I do think that it shouldn't, it shouldn't be limited to just someone who had their character appear in the show, right? Like, there should be an opportunity, um, at some level for, for everyone, uh, to participate. Yeah.

Bearsnake: The other. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I think the other thing that, um, speak vaguely about is, is like, it's not only about what we're doing, it's about lowering the barrier of entry for everyone who wants to create, to create.

Um, and so I, I think this is happening organically in our community right now. [00:40:00] There's like this, you know, I don't know what you wanna call it, a creator economy, if you want to call it like a bland corporate term, but like, that's happening. And how do we systematize that so that someone who doesn't necessarily feel comfortable writing a story themselves, but they wanna get a story written for them.

They don't feel comfortable painting, but they want to have a painting done. Um, they don't feel comfortable being able to make a backpack or a lunchbox themselves. How can we magic machine create, um, Create a system that makes it really easy for anyone to do any of these things. And so I think that's, that's the other half of this.

So there's like a passive and, and an active

Dotta: type of thing. Amazing. Thank you for the answers. Um, yeah. Always support you guys. So

Elf: thanks again. Thanks. So Sure. Thank you. Thanks Al. Um, I wanna talk about some really cool cult content that I've seen stand out this [00:41:00] week. Um, unless you have anything else, donor or bear or matto, let's do it.

Okay. Um, Matto, I'll, I'll let you go after this. Um, so yeah, I just, there's just been such great things and I, I wanna, I want to acknowledge it. So, uh, Sammy Kitties, um, the pile of blood and guts hat, what a nice hat design. Um, I, uh, I just think it's a great graphic for a hat. It's, uh, it's hilarious. Um, So, I mean, yeah, I love it.

Uh, I loved, uh, Tonya's wife fu. Um, it's just, it's just beautiful. I mean, uh, a girl in a bikini, on a snapping turtle that's just, that's just freaking awesome. Um, I I, I love when Tonya draws in this, uh, this like old, uh, anime style. It's, it's so cool. Um, and then, uh, waffles, uh, with a, uh, commission from Boxy [00:42:00] moxie of, um, uh, his, uh, warrior Garth.

Um, super cool style. Uh, Sam, why Sam with, uh, his cobal LAR on a motorcycle. Um, really nice piece of animation there. Uh, two crows with, uh, the Crow Bott. Um, and, and well, and just lots of robotic crow character design happening. Um, super cool. I have no idea, uh, the lore behind this, but it's looking great. Um, and then, uh, Dr.

Pop has been super pro prolific lately. Um, we've seen, uh, this really great, uh, guide to brown hat fashion, um, from ar Omegas Lux. Uh, Dr. Pop also did this really great, um, burn art, uh, for lewd Renan Apollo. [00:43:00] Um, just today he dropped this, uh, great piece of artwork for his Zoya killer of. And then a few days ago he, he did this just amazing, um, really comprehensive lore entry on the entire Milk Guild and, uh, the great Canon night hunt.

Um, this is some of the most complex and thorough lore I've seen on the Canaanites. Um, it's, it's just really impressive. And, and I think he, I, I talked to Dr. Pop and he was asking about like, you know, should, can I, can I put this in the Wiki? Like, is this canon? And I mean, I, I, I think it's definitely canon worthy, let's just put it that way.

It's, uh, it's, it's the best canon night, Laura, I've seen. So I, you know, I think it's definitely on its way to being Canon. Um, I. Then, uh, r y f did [00:44:00] has got this great commission from, uh, Tanya Del Rio. Um, it, it looks like maybe the Quantum or a Boros is in it, I'm not sure. Um, but, uh, but yeah, it's, it's beautiful.

And then a, uh, another Yfu, um, from acid eater of her Warrior McKenna. Um, this, this Yfu Wednesday thing is just hilarious. We can, uh, think of course, uh, more on global for that. Um, and then we had two different artists, uh, do, um, the, the founder trifecta. So Astro y, who's been doing this sort of crypto punk style did, um, me, Dota and Bear.

Um, and then Artis, uh, in her style did me, Dota and Bear. And of course, my. Mine looks the coolest in both of these as usual.

Um, [00:45:00] and then, uh, and then we've got some more mystery from the, uh, the mercenary. Um, I could be wrong, but I think he has changed his name to Arthur Mercenary of the Arena. I think it was like, I don't, I don't think it was like that last week. So maybe he's, uh, slowly dropping some clues as to his identity.

Um, but always good stuff from the mercenary. So yeah, that was the cult content that stood out to me this week. Um, I, it's really good stuff. I love the Yfu stuff. I love the blood and guts hat. Um, so yeah. Awesome job guys. Um, uh, Matto, do you wanna tell us about your, uh, new by Sonic thing? Sure. Uh,

Dotta: first before I get into that, I think you're gonna have to arm wrestle everybody else on the team to, to confirm whether or not you're the best looking one of the bunch.

Elf: No, no, no. Winner.

Dotta: Let's [00:46:00] I put that into Wiki.

Sage Celah of the Steppe: By the way, just for you, if you look at the, if you look at the entry for the, the troll that was won, it's

Dotta: amazing. Yeah.

Bearsnake: El, el el. I'm in the bear cave. You're welcome to come

Elf: by anytime. Hey, listen, let me just stop for a second. Um, there is going to be a round two.

There's gonna be a rematch and um, all I gotta say is you better watch out bear. That's all I gotta say. Okay. Go ahead madam.

Dotta: Okay. All right guys, so, um, I'm sure some of you have already noticed. I, um, I haven't made like a huge official announcement of it yet cause I'm still kind of like I'm getting on the ropes, but I have taken on, um, currently right now it's like part-time, but I may like expand it later.

I have a community management position with, by Sonic, um, really, really glad to be, um, helping him out and work together with them on the, the win game. Um, I'm gonna try to increase efforts on getting more marketing push and getting more, um, uh, input from the [00:47:00] cult, uh, directly to by Sonic and like, you know, a nice easy manner to hang around here so much.

And, you know, it's really easy for them to pick my mind for anything that's going on here. And, um, I think, um, I, I'm, I'm really excited for what they're, they're making. Um, uh, I think the, as we, uh, we just did the frog hunt obviously, and. There's a lot more planned coming out quite soon that we can't really get too into, obviously.

But I think, uh, just keep an eye out on our Twitter and, and our discord for the, for the, the, I'd say upcoming weeks. There's gonna be some slow drips on, on some stuff here or there. And, um, of course I'll always act as like a good, um, you know, um, middle point for if you feel like there's any ideas that you have for the game or any, you know, um, any questions that you may have, you know, feel free to reach out to me.

I feel like, um, you know, I'm, I'm a great point of contact that anybody can, um, you know, add me as a friend in, DM me if you need anything, and super excited what we have. Um, like, uh, I [00:48:00] guess, uh, currently I'm just trying to help out Discord, get more activity. We're gonna do, um, some game nights in there. We have one, we had one scheduled.

Two weeks ago. Uh, we have one coming up this Friday. I'll probably post more information later on it. Um, I think we're gonna do Jackbox this Friday. It's just casual stuff, so, I mean, come in if you wanna come in. If you don't, it's okay. We're just trying to get more, um, as we get close to the games release, trying to get more activity in our discord and I'll try to find ways to, you know, get as much, um, cult content, cult representation directly to the by Sonic team so we can make sure that, you know, the Universe game, um, completely encompasses everything that we

Elf: love.

That's fantastic. Amazing.

Dotta: Yes. Um, so glad that you're, that you're working with 'em. You know, I think, yeah, we really couldn't, couldn't think of anyone. Uh, better. We just told them so much that, that, that, yeah. You're just obviously our like [00:49:00] highest recommendation. You've been such an integral part of this community since minting.

Yeah. That's really exciting. Congrats. Yep. I mean, congrats to us honestly, that you agreed to do it.

Elf: Congrats to everybody. This is a big one. Yeah. Yeah.

Dotta: Yep. Honestly, honor. Oh, go ahead. No, no, I was just closing up saying it's honor. Well, thank you so much for the recommendation and the opportunity presented itself.

Nice. Um, on that, uh, topic, there was a lot of questions about the land sale. Um, so the land sale, so the universe game, uh, has. In the game. The total, total final supply at the end of time will be, uh, 70,000 plots. But we are of course not, uh, selling all 70,000 at once. So, um, we've sold some already in the private land sale round that we have talked about months, months ago.

Um, and then, you know, of course the, the public, the [00:50:00] original public scale sale was scheduled for, uh, well, you know, Right after, kind of like the great crash of 22, right? So it was, it was originally scheduled for right after kind of everything sort of fell apart and we just decided, you know what, we probably should just, just wait a little bit.

So there's no real, like, hard timeline on that. Um, because like the team is well funded, well organized, continuing to do, do development, right? I mean, um, the development that we're doing is actually a little bit farther ahead than it would've been because, uh, we would've had to like stop and do the launch, um, if that makes sense.

Right? So the time that we didn't spend on the launch has actually just been poured straight into doing game development and by Sonic has, you know, maybe one of the biggest pixel artist teams in the world and they're just doing a great job kind of building of that game. The plots for the game, um, are, you know, uh, various, uh, sizes, right?

So there's eight by eight, 16 by 1630. Two by 32. 64 by 64. Um, and I believe the largest size right now is 1 [00:51:00] 28 by 1 28, but there's only going to ever be seven of those. Um, and so the prices of those plots, you know, it hasn't been announced officially already, right? But one of the things that you'll know that I like talked quite a lot about was that, um, we wanted to make sure that the, typically when you do kind of these private rounds, the private round investors want to get kind of a discount versus the public.

We felt, you know, they weren't necessarily pushing for that, but that's just like what's standard and, uh, that didn't feel right to me. I wanted to make sure that if we were gonna do this round, that everyone kind of got the same price. And so, um, I think it's ended going to end up being pegged, you know, of course to U S D cuz is just all over the place.

And so, um, the smallest plot sizes are, um, around like $500. Um, and, uh, you know, we'll have more to announce about specific pricing and all of that and supply as we get closer to, to really launching the land. But, um, you know, the, the, the use of the land will be kind of like, um, the core of economic activity with regards to kind of like [00:52:00] crafting and like, um, yield of resources, right?

So there's still loops around like social, there's still loops around like questing and battling with your friends where you can kind of earn money even if you don't own land. But when you own land, that's where you're able to kind of build structures, uh, not only for like living spaces and social spaces, but also economic spaces as well.

Like, you'll be able to develop your land, which will let you be able to harvest resources from that land, um, and maybe even be able to kind of like, uh, you know, rent out or allow use of other people to that land. So there's, there's quite a lot of sort of intricacies in the tokens there that will be kind of unrolled, uh, as we.

As revealed. But yeah, I mean, I think that's the lace with the land sales. There's no like date yet. Um, I don't know the final number, right? I don't know the exact final number of what kind of, uh, the number of plots that we're gonna do in the first land sale. But, um, you know, basically the total value of that land sale is gonna be somewhere between, uh, you know, on, in ballpark of [00:53:00] $10 million.

And so I think that like, Really for us, when you ask like, when is the time period that kind of, you're, you're planning on actually dropping it? And I think it's just something like, well, just like when we start to see, you know, the market recover a bit, where we feel like we could move that degree of, uh, of like, of land.

And so, um, it's really just kind of like a waiting game, right? Are we going in on another four year bull market? Are we, uh, sorry, bear market like we had in 2018? I don't think so. I don't think it's gonna be as long. Um, but I don't necessarily think it's gonna be, you know, in August necessarily. So, but, you know, could be surprised.

Like Illium, for example, already dropped in this market and they did quite well. So, um, I think that like, there's a lot of kind of unknowns we're talking about all the time prepping, planning, building, so, yeah.

Elf: Yeah. Oz um, asked about the land. He, I think he's, I think he asked if, um, If the, uh, the, the new map [00:54:00] expansion is gonna be included.

Um, and I

Dotta: Well, part of the game, yeah, go ahead. Well, I

Elf: was just gonna say, I th I think at least the, that southern part with, um, the, the jungle might be, but I'm actually not sure. Do, do you know Dota or, or even mad, do you know?

Dotta: Um, well, I think they're gonna like, build out the world, like each, um, sort of biome of the world requires its own artwork.

And then also just in terms of, so that's like in terms of development. Um, and then the second part is just around like, you know, we wanna roll out the world in a game that feels, um, like full enough, no one wants to play a ghost town. And so I think part of the rollout of the different areas will depend on kind of like growth in the, um, like user base of the game.

And again, you know, unlike a lot of other web three games, uh, this game is being designed. Um, one. Well, it's, it's being designed to be a game that's fun [00:55:00] for, for people who like play, you know, let's say regular games, like normal Web two games. And of course, that's like, by sonic's expertise is like building those kinds of games and rolling them out.

But then they also are like very kind of innovative in working with us to make sure the tokens and the ownership feels native to people in web three. So, um, you know, it's really inspired by kind of, um, like our time, particularly Jdo, uh, at by Sonic the, the like, uh, the head over there and co-founder by Sonic, right?

Spent a lot of time playing, you know, um, Ultima Online and EverQuest and all of these like, um, you know, early MMOs that were quite fun, but, uh, they didn't have crypto then, so the economics didn't quite work. So trying to build a game that's like incredibly fun, but where you still own your stuff. And so, um, yeah, hopefully that'll bring in a lot of like non crypto people and then the game will grow and then we'll grow areas of the map as that, as that happens.

Elf: Speaking of Oz, I think he's [00:56:00] reading lore today. I don't even know, I don't know if Oz is. Oh yeah, Oz is here. Um, Oz, I heard you were reading lore today, but if not, just um, ignore the call to come read lore. But if you are, please raise your hand and come up. Um, let's see. Uh, Doda, you and I had a big, had a big conversation.

I think we're gonna push it to next week though. But let, let me just put a little seed in everybody's brain. Um, we, we've been talking a lot behind the scenes, behind the scenes about NFTs, especially character NFTs and if they should be dynamic or if they should be permanent. And what I mean by that is like, should we build like the ability to change your NFT into like the token?

And I, I don't wanna get too far into it as we're going there. No, no, no, no. Like I, my preempt, my, my preface was I don't want to go there just yet. I'm just putting [00:57:00] the seed and everybody's like, um, so something, think about, maybe we'll do this next week, but it's, it's a very fascinating topic and it's something we've been talking a lot about at Managing Machine.

Dotta: Um, we need go more into next week. I think that's a very fascinating idea. Yes. Yep.

Elf: For sure. Um, Oz is not coming up. Is there anyone who has lore to read today? No, he's here. Oh. Oh, he is here. Oh, I am here. Hello. Uh,

Sage Celah of the Steppe: hey guys. Thanks for having me. Hey. Hey. Uh,

Dotta: so yeah, yeah, go ahead.

Sage Celah of the Steppe: No, uh, uh, I wanted to read the lore of Sage Kello, the Step because, uh, he's gonna be the character featuring the short film that, uh, the, that's gonna be funded by the Dow.

And would like to thank everyone and on behalf of my friends for voting for, um, and so I'm just gonna go. Uh, so basically Sage Kella [00:58:00] is, um, his law is written by so far, three wizards. And there are three notes, uh, each one written by one of these wizards. So the first note is today I spent the morning observing Sage Keller without him noticing he left early for a morning walk and spent the whole day out.

Sage Keller is a hermit. He lives alone in a rocky shack, though the step is a wide open place, his house is hidden among rocks, making it difficult for any passerby to see it. I almost got lost the first time I went to visit him. Inside is surrounded by books of all kinds. His home is always smoky due to to due to the potions to which he's devoted.

He avoids contact with the external world because he believes it is full of distractions and that the only way of living the true life is going inwards. Careless daily routine is based on walking to the nearby swamps to see the green [00:59:00] bullfrogs. He spends hours watching them in their marshy lives, observing and connecting thoughts regarding philosophy and science.

Some say he's a visionary, while others think he's a goofy old man. I definitely think think he's a genius. He often catches some frogs both for fun and need. He likes to keep some company at home. But the practical use for the bull frog. Is its specific and powerful venom. After years of studying psychedelic elements and risking his life in both experiments, Kella has concluded that the green Bull frogs venom is the best mind.
