Wizard Wednesday Episode 85 - May 3rd

=

Elf: [00:00:00] It is Wednesday, we are wizards, and today is the day that we call Wizard Wednesday channeling in through the quantum downs. This is Elf and Doda

Bearsnake: and Bear going full DJ today.

Elf: Ooh, that sounds exciting. That's, that's a change bear.

Bearsnake: Yeah, I, I feel like, I feel like I wasn't even committed. Today's the day I'm really turning on the guys.

I'm

Elf: excited. Well, it's about time I've been waiting for some gas.

Bearsnake: Well, you

Elf: haven't, sir. Bear, I think you've got a big announcement today, but I'm gonna ask you to hold onto it for just a moment. We don't want to give it all away, [00:01:00] right? Yet. Uh, we've got a big show today before we let Bear really pour on the gas.

We've got cult questions, we've got updates, uh, and, and we've just got a lot to talk about. Um, I'm not gonna preview too much. Let's just, uh, jump right in. So I'm gonna go for the first cult question. Uh, let's see. Um, S P Z is, has, is has a lower question. Uh, can you talk a bit more about the lore of the colored factions and how they pertain to the Warriors?

Uh, because there's several traits in the Warriors collection that touches on this, such as the bodies and the tunics and the armor and the weapons and so on. Uh, okay. Yeah. So I'm glad you noticed. S P Z. Yes. The warriors are indeed part of the color factions of the universe. Um, To my mind, uh, w what we're dealing with is a power structure in the [00:02:00] universe where probably at the head of these factions are the wizards who sort of are these elites who are designing all the political ma machinations for their own ends, whether that is righteous or wicked.

Uh, and the warriors are sort of the boots on the ground who carry out these designs. Uh, they often proudly display these color affiliations in certain instances. So yes, the colored armors can be depiction depictions of the color factions, um, but really just depends on what your character's lore calls for.

Um, okay, let's see. Uh, from sh Lee's asking, what route does Magic machine plan on taking to market the universe game, how can the project get the word out most effectively to reach a wider audience? Uh, I don't have an answer to that. Beardo, did you guys have an answer to that?

Bearsnake: Wait, what was the beginning of [00:03:00] it was how to get, uh, to a wider

Elf: audience, basically. How does Magic Team plan on marketing the universe game and just really getting it out there?

Bearsnake: Oh, how do we plan marketing? Yeah, we can, we can talk about that. I mean, I think, you know, there is, uh, a guy who runs marketing over, at by, but essentially there's a couple different phases to it.

The two big phases are marketing to. The native web three audience and then switching, uh, gears and then marketing to the web two audience. Um, you know, I think I might have talked about it a little bit last week and, and, and more information coming, but distribution is gonna be key. Uh, so we have some big traditional marketplaces where people tend to just.

Their games. Um, so I think that will be a part of it. I think, you know, actually had a really interesting conversation, um, with a friend of mine who manages some of the biggest, uh, streamers, twit streamers in the world. I'm talking like the top, top, top, top tops, and, and I think getting those types of people [00:04:00] onboarded, playing the game, streaming the game.

Um, are gonna be a big booth for us. Um, so those are, those are just a couple things. And then, you know, I, I think you can't really run ads in, in the web three space, but I think there's probably gonna be at least a little bit of a marketing paid marketing campaign to, to the Normies out there that we think will like the game.

Is that, is that, is that a good enough answer? Yeah. And then

Dotta: also by Sonic themselves, um, is uh, sort of like a traditional game publisher in a lot of ways. Um, and they have quite a bit of experience getting people to play sort of, let's call 'em traditional games. And so, um, that's everything from the things we talked about, right?

Like paid marketing, advertising, um, running campaigns, getting influencers, you know, they have. Like as a team, they have experience of, of like getting games into like physical retail stores to like digital download. So there's, there's very much like, um, like an experienced team for kind of that level of path.

I mean, and then I think in terms of like marketing to crypto people, it's [00:05:00] always just, you know, I think everyone's still figuring it out as we go, but um,

Elf: yeah, those would be the thing what we're doing. Yeah. I, I, I'm sure everybody saw the awesome thread that the, that, uh, that team put out today on, on, uh, their Twitter account, um, just full of great content.

I, uh, I actually dmd, uh, tlo the, the, the creative lead at by Sonic just this morning and just told him for like the 20th time how much I love their monster designer. Um, that artist is just so talented and I would love to bring him on Wizard Wednesday, if that's possible. I'm not sure if it's even possible, but, um, Just a, he's just an amazing character designer.

Um, hey Matto, do you have any input on this? What's up? Hey, Matto. My, my phone was giving me issues, so I had to hop into my laptop and phone on. Yeah. Um, we are actually pretty excited. We have a lot that's [00:06:00] being, that's being worked on right now and like we are like kind of creating the next like, um, moves in terms of marketing for like how we're gonna push off the next waves.

Um, so like, we're just gonna, so for now it's like this, this predict, this production update is, um, it goes over a lot of, a lot of great stuff that, um, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm getting, um, I'm still getting like some issues with my laptop. I think. But, um, that's okay. Yeah. Sorry. Um, yeah, we have, uh, just, we have a, we have more campaigns coming out.

I know we kind of pushed back the day a little bit so that we can focus more on like actually getting mar more marketing done to push out the word more. And by Sonic internally, like, like was brought up before. They, um, they have experience of doing this traditionally. So, um, they very theory have a, a wider game plan that we're gonna work on.

Excellent. Um, okay, I'm gonna move to the next question. Uh, gbu gbu gbu, I don't even know how to say the [00:07:00] name. I think everybody who's who this is though, G L A B Z, uh, is asking what's in the vase. Um, so the vase they are referring to, I believe, are the bases of the Athe collection. Uh, so with those you can see that they were each named after regions of the universe.

Uh, to my mind, I'm imagining that someone, I don't know who yet, some kind of envoy, uh, to those regions, uh, was delivering them as gifts to sort of power centers in each region. Um, In my mind, they sort of all came from one place, from one like artisan, somewhere in the universe. Um, and, and you'll notice that they're all shut with a lid.

Now, I don't think this lid can be opened by normal means. Um, and so the outstanding questions on these vses for me are who made them? Why can't they be [00:08:00] opened? What's inside with them? And maybe most importantly is how did they end up in the MP boxes? Because that's sort of how they all came into our possession.

The nightmare MP was giving them away as treats. Uh, so somehow he gathered them up and started giving them more away as innocent trinkets. Uh, did he ruin the grand designs of the original maker of these vases or is he playing a role in their redistribution? Um, I don't know, but that's the answer that I can own.

That's the only answer I can give so far. Um, okay. Snoop Dogg is asking, uh, regarding the 3D beasts. Uh, there was discussion around them being humanoid characters versus accurate de uh, depictions. Um, I guess he's asking if there's a decision been made on those. So I have not reached out to the Beast Masters, um, as to what to do [00:09:00] with the 3D versions of the Beasts.

Um, I'm sure I will at some point. You know, as we said before, like, like if, if you want to use these as playable character rigs, they, they probably have to have a sort of humanoid bipedal skeleton in them. As far as I know, there's no meta that's supporting Quadriped rigs just yet. Um, So I like at this moment, I'm leaning towards making like a biped version of every beast just to start with.

And then maybe a more accurate depiction gets built later. Um, you know, it, it's tricky cuz like, cuz like, like the Kelpie for example, that's, that's not a quadriped, that's not a biped, that's like a triped. And so, you know, let's say the, these metas implement quadriped support, but will they implement Triped support?

Probably not. So, you know, I I, to me it's just like, do these beast masters want the, want these characters to [00:10:00] be usable and, and, uh, 3D open Metas? Um, I don't know. So yeah, I'll, I'll, I'll definitely reach out to them and just get some input. Um, speaking. Yeah, it's like, oh, go ahead. It's all the more reason

Dotta: for like why we want to kind of like control a bit of our own 3D experiences.

Right. Um, cuz each one of the beasts really could use their own rig and so that's, I mean, it's a lot of work, but to, to really get the feeling that you'd want out of them.

Elf: Yep. Yep. Uh, and then speaking of 3d, always asking, how close is the website update for 3D rig release? Um, okay. Yeah. So few weeks, all the, what's that?

I It's probably a few weeks. Yeah, I was gonna say a few weeks. Um, all the geometry is done, the textures are done, the rigs are done, like the characters are done. Um, now we are, yeah, we're working on the website and then also like just. Generating the entire collection with all the parts. Um, a lot [00:11:00] of ugly bugs, rear their ugly faces when you start doing that.

Um, yeah, you know, this even happens with very simple 2D pixel art. Like certain combinations are just not working. So now extrapolate all the complexity of a 3D character, uh, into the complexity of 10,000 different combinations. And yeah, we're seeing some bugs. Um, you know, they're, they're getting fixed every day and, uh, along with the website being built.

So I'm gonna guess another probably two weeks. Um, These things.

Bearsnake: I'm also gonna say, I'm, I'm also gonna say the team is doing such a kick-ass job of the site. Um, you know, we have this dev chat in the Magic machine Discord where we watch the devs and, you know, post updates and, and Alps coming in there and with design stuff and, oh God, it just looks so good.

Everybody, I think everybody's gonna be very happy with it.

Elf: Yep. Yep. We just wanna put our best foot forward [00:12:00] with this. We don't wanna rush it. Uh, we want it to just really blow your mind. Um, okay. Bear, uh, I think, uh, I think it's time for your glorious announcement and, um, I'm just gonna let you, uh, have at it.

So what do you got?

Bearsnake: All right. Well, first of all, I wanna apologize that it's taken this long and I think El we should, el Alpha do, we should jump into why it's taken this long. Yeah. On the tail of this, but yeah. You know, definitely long time coming. Happy to announce that, you know, we have as, as you all know, we have a 10 issue.

Uh, comic book series, um, that's already in the works. We already have a couple books, um, done and finalized. I think the big part about, you know, the, the one one half of comics is making them, the other half is like distribution, marketing, getting them out into the stores, uh, you know, doing, going through the right process, the traditional process.

And so we, we've signed a deal with, uh, Titan Comics, uh, Titan Publishing, who, you know, handles some [00:13:00] of the biggest IP out there. Some, you know, we, we, we blasted out an image this morning, but you know, some, some other IP that they handle. Star Wars, Dr. Who? Minions, assassins Creed. Star Trek, like, oh yeah. Just, just a ton of, of just huge global ip.

And so I just, I I, it, it's just so important when, when we're going and, and putting together these initiatives, um, that you, that you partner with, with, with a company that's just been doing it. Right. I think one of our superpowers as a company is never pretending to be good at something or know how to do something that we don't know.

Um, and that, that really allows us to have no ego and to partner with the best in the business. So, you know, the comic book series, um, will be distributed by Titan. Um, it'll be physical comics, um, as well as online. Um, the timeline is fall of this year. Um, and once issue number one comes [00:14:00] out, we're probably looking at October or November, although I think we'll probably still have a.

Uh, a footprint at both Comic Cons. Um, San Diego's in July and New York is in October, but the first one will come out in October, November, and then therefore there'll be a new one every single month. Um, some fun things that sort of come along with working with a publisher like Titan is like the marketing side.

Um, and, and so part of that marketing is getting really high level sort of name artists in the space to do cover variants. Obviously we, we, we already have Riley Brown, who is, I think part of the reason that we even, um, were able to secure the deals because of his talent and his. Sort of just reputation in the space.

Um, but we'll be getting, we'll be onboarding other really fantastic artists known in the space to do cover variants. That's like a known marketing tactic. Um, Titan [00:15:00] also, you know, a lot, some of these deals, you know, are really just using the pipes of the distribution company, so like, You know, meaning that, like the partner in our case, like a magic machine would just have to like, pay for everything and we, and they just facilitate.

What's nice with Titan is, um, you know, they are going ahead and, and fulfilling and paying for all of the marketing, which is, which, you know, it's in business, having a partner that also has skin in the game is really good, right? Because it, it, it shows that they believe in the product they have, you know, they have some risk.

If you have risk, you're gonna be pushing it harder and trying to make it work. Um, and so was really happy. I think that was part of the deal is like, okay, sure we could pay for it, but if we can get someone else to believe it enough to, you know, put their arm on the table also next to ours, that, uh, that sort of proved to us.

So very exciting. And, and you know, we're, we're still looking at what the possibilities are. On sort of the digital [00:16:00] side in terms of Web three. Um, we haven't really gotten into that yet, but, uh, you know, I think we're, we're known for pulling some tricks out of our hat, so you can expect maybe some fun stuff there.

Am I missing

Elf: anything, guys? Um, I, there's a ton I wanted to say about this, number one, as, as I've said before, what I love about the comic is like, not only is it a physical comic that's gonna be in stores, but it's also just a proof of concept for what we're doing. It, it, it proves the thesis of what we're trying to do, um, which is, Uh, take both content and funnel it into these larger media expressions.

So many of the storylines in the comic are pulled from the book of lore, inspired from the book of lore. So many community members will see their characters in the comic, so that's very exciting. Number two, I also really want to put, um, just a lot of your artwork in the comic as like [00:17:00] extra pages. Um, I don't know exactly how we're gonna like, make that process work just yet, but I, I, I really want to get like, actual cult content into the comic.

Um, printed on the page. Um, So, you know, I mean, you know, those two components right there just, just really are sort of a testament to the collaborative, legendary. Um, you know, a another thing I wanna touch on is, you know, bear was talking about timing. Um, and I wanna talk about speed running a franchise, but like, the first part is, um, you know, I, I think we started talking, like giving hints that we, we found a comic book publisher last year, and I'm gonna give you some inside baseball right now.

Um, we were actually talking to Dark Horse comics long before we started talking to Titan. We thought we had a deal [00:18:00] with Dark Horse. This back and forth with Dark Horse was what, like five months Bear was, was that

Bearsnake: how long we were? It was, yeah, it was, it was about five months, yeah. Of negotiating. I mean, this was like full on, like we're doing it going back and forth.

Yeah. Um, and yeah, well, you can tell the rest of the story.

Elf: I'll let you know. Well just, just, you know, so when we started talking about it, like we actually thought we had a deal with, with Dark Horse, like we thought any day we're, we were gonna announce it and like at the 11th hour, at the very last minute, they got cold feet purely because of NFTs.

Um, and you know, I just thi this is the sort of thing that all NF t projects are dealing with now is there's just a lot of misinformation about what an N F T is. And some people at Dark Horse had bought into that negative hype. Um, I'm not saying everybody at Dark Horse there, but, but someone who was able to pull the trigger, uh, [00:19:00] just got skittish about NFTs and pulled out at the last minute.

So, you know, it's, I, I, I bring this up, not because it's like, not as necessarily bad news, it's just like, It, to me it just means we're still very early. This space is still being developed, um, and, uh, you know, kudos to, to Titan to recognizing the what NFTs and Web three really has to offer. So, you know, it's just, yeah, and it's just, you know, again, it's like this is why it sort of took us so long, cuz this is how the legacy media industry works.

Like, you can, you can get sucked into a five month negotiation that then just falls out from under you at the very last minute. Um, so I

Bearsnake: don't know. Well welcome. Well welcome to my life every day. Yeah. Um, talking, I mean, my main interaction is talking with people who either don't know what Web three and NFTs are, or they like fanatically hate them.

Um, and so, you know, you find out over time and I try to, you know, like front, [00:20:00] front load the conversation so that I don't waste my time, the cult's time, the company's time. But you know, you never know. Um, You never know what's gonna happen when you're dealing with these other people. The last thing I did wanna say to end on a positive note is, um, you know, I shared a couple pages, new pages that, uh, came in from Riley and the colorist.

Um, and, and I'm like, where do you think of like this? Well, no, not publicly to, to, I shared it to, to, to Titan. And I go like, where on, like, where on the spectrum does this fall in terms of like quality and. And I was, and they were just like, it doesn't get better than this. They're like, Riley, like, and of course the pages I shared just looked so good.

But like, just to get that validation from a company that just purely works in publishing and comics, for them to give that feedback. I mean, they, they think that the success, [00:21:00] a lot of the success that they believe is in this series is gonna, is gonna come even just from the quality of the art. So, I just, I couldn't be more over the moon and, and to be able to, like you said, alpha publish this comic book in stores, uh, across the world that are inspired by stories, written by the cult and by us.

I, it, this is, this is just what it's about. And it just, it gives me a goosebump. I'm so excited.

Elf: I also,

Dotta: uh, agree, uh, with the quality. It's just unbelievable. I know that you were, were saying you might even wanna leak one of the pages, and so I don't know if we're ready to do that, but I can't wait to get people share.

Bearsnake: I'm share him in a discord. I'm gonna share one of discord right now. Truth

Dotta: is, man, it's just too good. Every, every frame just like, kills me with how fun.

Elf: It's, um, yeah. Yeah. It's, it's, it's great. You know, and it's, and like a lot, like, we've had a lot of like, Sort [00:22:00] of, I don't know, tech guys, I guess I'd call 'em, like people who, who only have like the, the web three tunnel vision.

They're like, why are you even messing with the legacy entertainment industry? And I'll, I'll tell you why, because we are, we are a media franchise. It it's about the intellectual property. There is no reason not to reach into a Web two audience. It is only gonna help the Web three component. There is a scenario in my head that, that I, that's just playing over and over where I I, I'm looking forward to the day to where a fan of the forgotten rooms comic unknowingly tells an NFT cult member, Hey, have you heard about Forgotten Rooms?

That is going to be a magical moment. And you know, it's like if the Web three community wants to grow, you have to reach into the web two community. I, I mean, I, it [00:23:00] just, it seems so obvious to me. Um, but I, I don't know. Some people don't see it that way. Way. Well, no, and it's just like

Dotta: the, the path people are so quick to like throw away tradition as like useless.

And the fact of the matter is, is that like, So many of the ips that you know and love that you see in the theater started as a comic book, right? Because how it's very expensive to make a movie that you see in the cinemas. And so you have to kind of test, um, the story and the characters and, and experiment with things like along the way.

And using a comic book, um, is like a very traditional way for that sort of IP to grow. And so also at the same time, you basically have, um, this entire industry, these people, their whole business is we, we make comics that are of high quality. We get them in bookstores and people buy them and enjoy them.

And like they understand how to do that process. That is a completely like, It's not just that they're gatekeepers, um, for no reason, just for status or something like they're [00:24:00] gatekeepers because sort of their business depends on it. And so you can actually get a higher quality product versus just, you know, hiring a fiber artist and then like throwing this token gated N f t on opens sea or something.

And so, yeah, I think that it's like completely valuable to put yourself through the rigor of that process. And, um, well, and of course we've got, you know, Joe a writer and we've got Riley the artist. You know, I, I, I love the, all the little details in every frame of these, right? Like in this, in this tree outside the house, when you look, there's like, um, like skulls baked into the bark and Right, and there's aro above their door in terms of the welcome sign.

And there's just like, the more you look, the more little details you start to see. And, and that's just a sign of like, Uh, like just professionalism, right? Like look in the back corner of the, of the room of everyone playing the board game, and you can actually see that their staffs are, are hidden there behind the bird almost.

And so it's just all of those little details are painted in with care and, um, well, they become more iconic with [00:25:00] everything we

Elf: publish. Yep. Yeah. And just, you know, the, the, the general like comic book audience is, there's a lot of overlap with the audience who loves fantasy and magic, the gathering. And it's just like, this is our audience.

Like, I'm not certain that another N F T project, a comic book is necessarily the best move for them. I mean, I, I don't know, not to pick on pudgy penguins, but like a pudgy penguin comic doesn't necessarily overlap with your traditional comic book crowd, but like I know that certain comic book, uh, stores host magic, the gathering card games every like Thursday night.

Okay. I mean, it just, it just makes sense for forgotten room's, wizards, cult to intersect with that community. Um, so, you know, it's, I I I just love it. I love it so much. I agree. I agree. Um, so, you know, and, and you know, and, and, and again, the comic is like part [00:26:00] of the whole thesis of speed running a franchise now.

We tweeted this fun image today that put the com, the the Forgotten Roots comic next to Star Wars and Harry Potter and Minions, for example. And so this morning I did a little bit of research on Wikipedia and I wanted to see how fast, uh, those franchises were built. And so let me, let me give you a few numbers and you can tell me if we're quote, speed running.

So with Star Wars, George Lucas first conceived the idea in 1971. He wrote the film in 73, the first Star Wars film. They began filming in 76, and the film finally premiered on in 77. So from the conception of the idea to finally hitting the big screen was six years. Okay. Harry Potter was first conceived by JK [00:27:00] Rowling in 1990.

She wrote the book, the first book in 95, uh, the first draft, um, but it wasn't Sorcerer Stone wasn't published until 97. And so that took seven years from, from conception to actually printed book, uh, the Minions, um, that they debuted in the film, uh, despicable Me, which began production in 2008. The film premiered in 2010, and then the Minions didn't get their own film until 2015, so that took seven years.

Okay. Forgotten. Rooms conceived in the year 2021. Launched the collection in 2021, began production on the first on our M M O R P G in 2021. The TV [00:28:00] deal started in 2022, and our comic book will hit the stores in 2023. Okay? All of that is two and a half years compared to all those others that took seven, six, and seven years.

So, are we speed running? Uh, the argument could be made and, uh, you know, we're just getting started. I mean, just think about what we're gonna do in six or seven years time. Um,

Bearsnake: if we're not, if we're not speed running, then why are my legs so tired? One more. Dad joke. Dad joke. There we

Elf: go. Um, yeah, bear. So speaking of speed running, um, another big thing happened to the legacy entertainment industry.

Uh, just yesterday, I believe, uh, Hollywood is seeing a huge writer's strike. Now. I think that our partners, uh, have been sort of waiting for this moment because they can sort of leverage it, uh, to their advantage. [00:29:00] Um, so Bear, can you maybe tell us any details about that?

Bearsnake: Yeah, I feel like I need to dress up like that character.

Um, Um, uh, Mr. Hollywood, have you guys ever nevermind. I'm gonna stop myself. I'm about to go on

Dotta: tangent. I'll too late. The memes have already started. Everyone's opening Kaplan

Bearsnake: already. God, uh, anyway, um, so yeah, the wga, the Writers Guild of America, of which there are two branches west and east. Um, Every once in a while collective, it's a union.

They collectively strike on behalf of the writers that are in those unions, um, to, uh, negotiate better rates for themselves. And I know I won't go on too much of a rant, but I, I could talk for a long time about this. Um, you know, with, with streaming, you know, the whole writers, the whole, well actually the whole entertainment industry completely shifted, uh, once every major studio [00:30:00] started to chase Netflix in this subscription streaming, uh, service model.

Um, long story short is writers are getting paid much less for the most part because, um, shows aren't getting syndicated, more shows being, being created. So the, the more shows being created, the less the individual show writer makes, um, cuz there's only so much money to go around anyway. So the, the WJ striking against, um, Against all the studios.

Anyone who pays for content, who works in tandem with WJ members, um, so that, uh, they grind production timelines to a halt, which then force the studios to then come to the table with better terms.

Elf: Um,

Bearsnake: so what, so, you know, I'm happy that the writers are doing this. I always want creative people to get the best possible deal, the best, the fairest deal.

Um, we all know that, you know, the other day I saw the c e o of, of this company, Roku, [00:31:00] that is just, they just laid off like, like 1500 people. He just got like a 50, $50 million like stock option grant. Um, so, you know, I, I think, you know, the richer, getting richer in, in this world. But when it pertains to our show, Our show does not fall under wga.

Our show falls under ii, which is essentially the animation Guild. Um, and uh, and so that allows us, while everybody's sort of gr to a halt, it allows us to go out into the world and shot the show for distribution. Um, which means there's less competition. The, the streamers, the distributors are hung, are even more hungry for new content.

Um, so it sort of plays into our strategy. So this has been on our radar for a long time. We've all known, um, sort of in the industry that this was coming. It's here now. Um, I think it's good for the writers, but it's also in the wga, but it's also good for us specifically cuz I [00:32:00] think it gives us some, you know, it's, it's just, you know, it's all about timing and it feels like good timing to go pitch this thing.

Am I making sense? Yeah.

Dotta: Super helpful. Thank you for sharing it. Well, I'm eager, I like hearing about it.

Elf: Cool. Uh, Johnny, uh, Johnny, do you have a question? Yeah. What's up? No, I, no, no questions. I just wanted to say that, um, I'm gonna like, uh, go ahead and airdrop the rest of my, uh, Canto ravers that I had like shown y'all earlier.

Uh, but I'm gonna drop them to Wizard Holes holders, um, and like, you know, other NFT holders and various people. So keep an eye out on your wallet, um, for that. Um, I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to do it, like, uh, you know, but I don't know. It's all being sorted out and that'll be taken care of soon.

Cool. Thanks. That's much. Yeah. Good to know. Yeah. All right. I love the canto. Thank you. With Canto, does the, uh,

Dotta: the uses the same [00:33:00] keys as you would use on Ethereum? Is that the idea? So like, even if you've never used Canto, if you like, kind of have an address, then you can kind of still use it.

Elf: Exactly. And uh, here's what I'm trying to figure out.

Like, I was thinking maybe just like, uh, there's maybe like a thousand left and I want to just airdrop the rest of the supply. So I was thinking maybe like airdrop to the top hundred holders of a few collections, but I want to be more inclusive than just doing it for, you know, people who hold a lot of whatever NF t.

So I want to be able to involve everybody. So I might do, uh, the top a hundred holders of two or three collections or four collections, and then, you know, put out some tweets that are like, uh, you know, share your wallet and we'll go ahead and drop avers to you and, um, do

Bearsnake: it that way. Well, I can tell you, I'm not biased, but getting your fingers into the cult, this is the best community out there, uh, the most passionate builders.

Um, so yeah, [00:34:00] I, I'd recommend it. Oh, yeah.

Elf: I mean, I've, I've had wizard for a long time now and en enjoyed it and just feels like something I can't let go of. And I enjoy popping in here every now and then and here and what y'all got

Bearsnake: going on. I appreciate you, boss. Yeah,

Elf: absolutely. Thank you. Would y'all mind if I pin the like, uh, airdrop tweet out?

It's, it's like, no, go ahead. Nothing. You have to connect a wallet to Go ahead. It really just share a wallet and we're gonna airdrop to those addresses. Yep. Before. All right. Thanks Chief. Y'all can appreciate y'all for having me up here. No problem. Yeah. Um, I just wanna address one quick thing I'm seeing in the secret tower when Bears shared this comic, um, the, uh, the Shapeshifter head, the bear headed guy is not actually Bear's Wizard.

I just wanted to make sure people know that

Bearsnake: it's another Bear Wizard. Yeah. Thanks. Thanks a lot. Thanks a lot. Me a freaking comic.

Elf: I'll, I'll tell you, [00:35:00] I'll tell you this, neither me nor Doda nor Bear actually appear in any of the comics, so Oh. But, but, uh, many other people. Cool, cool.

Bearsnake: Yeah. Cool. Yeah. Yeah.

Dotta: It doesn't matter.

Bear still owns that head to me in my mind,

Bearsnake: so, that's right. Yeah. Yeah. I'm gonna pretend, I'm gonna pretend it's me. I don't care what you say.

Elf: Ok.

Um, okay. So we had two dramatic things happen last week, and, and we're gonna try to tread over these topics as. As, uh, tactfully as we can. Um, yeah, yeah. I'll talk a little bit

Dotta: about like, let's call it like the Hall of Cats. Uh, yeah. Stuff that went on this week. You know, I think go for it. There was, there's like a bit of, uh, there's some conflict over the weekend.

Um, I'm not gonna talk about it too much right now. I basically, I'm, right now I'm working through talking to a lot of the individuals involved. Um, you know, making sure we take time to hear everybody's perspective. Um, you know, I [00:36:00] just, you know, if you're aware of it, just know that I'm handling it, I'm talking to people, uh, taking it super seriously, trying to, trying to make sure that everyone's feelings are heard, um, and listening to everybody.

So, yeah, dealing with that. We'll, we'll put together, like, I'm gonna put together like a little bit more of a thorough statement, which I'll drop probably tomorrow. Um, And, uh, we'll, we'll make a few policy changes, right? We wanna make sure that sort of the discord is just like a welcoming, friendly place for everyone.

Uh, and there are like a few things that I think that we can do to make sure that that happens. So, yeah, I, I'll leave it at that for now.

Elf: All right. Yeah. Just, just know that we're on it, um, and we're handling it the best we can. Um, the other dramatic thing, which honestly was more funny than anything else to be honest, was, uh, bear and I went on a show last week called Shark Tank.

Um, it's actually the reason that I so abruptly ended the Wizard Wednesday last week is because I was [00:37:00] like a few minutes late for that show. Um, and so I don't know how many of you saw it, uh, but it was freaking hilarious. Um, You know, I like first, like I didn't even know what the show was. Uh, bear Snake signed us up for it and, um, and he, and he started giving me shit for it too.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, my, so when I, when I finally realized what it was, my first thought was this was stupid. This is a waste of time. Why the hell would I participate in this? Just like, let a bunch of people yell at me like, there's no way I'm gonna do this. Okay. But, but that first thought. But wait, can we pause for a second?

Can we pause second Hold, hold on. Let me, let me just finish. Okay. That first thought only lasted for five seconds because then I realized, no, I cannot wait to do this. This is an opportunity to shine because I know what Forgotten ruins [00:38:00] is. I know it can stand up to scrutiny and I have no fear from these guys or anyone pitching the project.

And so that's why I hung on, so, okay. Yeah, go ahead, bear.

Bearsnake: No. Can you guys hear me? Yep. Yep. I was just gonna say that there's this, there's this quote. That, uh, is in my head from you where you're like, I'll talk to anyone anytime, but without, without fail. Every time we set something up, you're like, I don't know, this is, I'm not sure if we should do this or not.

And, and, and then, and then I would say like 85% of the time after the fact, you're like, I'm so happy we did that. Yeah. So I just want everybody know what I'm dealing with with the EL over here. Yeah. Yeah.

Elf: I'm not helping. I was in the dance. Be like, if you don't wanna do it, don't do it. Just, just bail. It doesn't matter.

Um, no. Donna was straight up saying, you guys bail, this is stupid. Like Yeah. Like there was there, sorry. So, so many headwinds going in into this space. Um, but we did it. Um, and so, okay. So, so yeah. I mean it's basic. They're [00:39:00] basically emulating the show Shark Tank and having a bunch of crypto people come up and pick, pitch their projects and they just tear into them.

And, and so you can see why I might be reluctant to do it because, you know, why would you do that? Um, But, but, and, and like, because cause you love to fight, that's why. Oh yeah. No, and that's why I did it, because I fucking love to fight. I'm actually like a keyboard warrior if you guys don't know this in another life.

Um, I love arguing and I, I was like, I was chomping at the bit to start. I did have to unfollow you on Facebook back in the day. I was just like, I can't, so, so ok. So, so, so anyway, so at, at the very beginning of the show, um, they, they give a disclaimer about like, don't take any of the criticism to personally, we're all friends here, blah, blah, blah.

Um, and, you know, I respect that. Um, and like, I, I [00:40:00] realize that these so-called judges, they're really just playing a character. You know, they're, they're giving harsh critiques as a form of entertainment, you know, just like the TV show. And that's fine. Um, but. What I realized is unlike the TV show where they can cut out any section that makes the judges look like unprofessional fools, this show was live and I can say whatever I want and they can't cut it out.

And that I saw as a massive advantage. Um, so. Uh, so, so, so there, if, if you guys saw the show, there was one judge in particular who, who really wanted the audience to think he was an intelligent, tough guy, giving an honest critique. Um, but, but to me it was so transparently obvious that this was just a facade.

Um, um, and I'm thinking like, fine, you, you can play your tough guy character, but I [00:41:00] am not gonna play the submissive contestant who's here to learn, uh, for one simple reason, because this clown has no idea what he's talking about, quite frankly. Um, and so basically what ended up happening was all of his critiques amounted to You must be lying, everything bear.

And I said, The guy basically thought we were lying because it was just too impressive. So it couldn't be true.

Bearsnake: Yeah. It turned, it turned into this whole thing. It was like, it wasn't about what we'd done, it was about proving to him that we're not lying. And it was, I was like, what's going on?

Elf: Yeah, yeah.

Which is just like, you're supposed to be a judge and the best critique you can leverage is you're lying. I don't believe you. Um, and so that was hilarious. And like, you know, at the end of it all, it was hilarious. Flu was in there. He was hilarious. Um, you know, [00:42:00] I thought we did great. I, I got a lot, a lot of dms from Colt members telling me how much they enjoyed the show.

Um, some people even said, I wish you guys would get way more edgy and confrontational on Wizard Wednesday. Um, But yeah, it was, it was a fun show and like, you know, I, I, the, the show was over and, and I, and I left it at that, but the drama was not over. And like, honestly, I even hesitate to go into the second part of the drama.

But like, we, we did it. We did, we escalated the drama and, and I wanna tell you why we escalated the drama. Um, because this judge, the character that he was playing, it sort of went to his and he uh, he sent me a lot of really threatening dms. And I shared these dms with Doda and then Doda, what did you do?

Bearsnake: Oh yeah, this was shocking. This was, lemme set. I just [00:43:00] tweak. Lemme set it up. You let me set it up Doda, because, sorry, not to cut you off. You're fine. Me and El were like, We're like, oh God, Doda is not gonna like any of this drama. He's not gonna, he's like, he's so not into this. He told us to not do this.

Now that's, that's the table I'm setting for your tweet. Well, then

Dotta: I, well, this is what tripped me up with this guy. Look, whatever. I don't mean to spread dirty laundry. But then he basically started claiming that, like he texted the CEO of By Sonic, and they said that they'd never heard of us, which is ridiculous because like they're like my personal best friends.

And it was just this like blatant lie and I couldn't believe it that they were like having these, like, it was so weird. We even emailed her and we're like, did he reach out to you? And she was like, she was like, well, he interviewed for a job here and he didn't get it. You know, it was just so. It was so weird.

And so I was, I was really mad. I think I was in a bad mood that day. So then I also tweeted about it, you know,

Elf: oh, you didn't tweet about it. [00:44:00] Tell us what you did.

Dotta: I don't know. I didn't think it was that big of a deal. My tweet is actually quite, quite nice. I didn't name him at first and I said, there's a large influencer with a hundred K followers.

His job is hunting rugs and he thinks that we're lying about having rigged 3D models for all of our characters, which he did. He thought we were lying about having a full M M O Rrp G with By Sonic. He thought we were lying about having Derek as a show writer. And what I put is, you know what? I can't blame him.

I can barely believe it myself. Yeah, that's lighthearted.

Bearsnake: No, I know, but I feel like you, you need to get a better like, A different like outside perspective on your own tweets. Cause sometimes you tweet things like that and you're like, what? It's like so super nice and it was like str I thought it was just like a shot across the bow, calling him out.

And then you end and then you ended up tagging him. And I was like, me and El were like, oh my god, ELs going hard.

Elf: So hard right now. That was the icing on the cake with, at mentioning the dude that that's where it went. Like next level. Um, miss Doda and

Dotta: I took a, like a [00:45:00] big five personality test and um, I ranked, um, one percentile on politeness, which means in a hundred, in a room of a hundred people there would only be like one person who ranked lower on politeness.

Elf: Okay. Wow. And, and, and, and, and so. Okay. But this is sort of like why I really wanna talk about it, you know, cuz like some people might see do's tweet as the, the first shot, but really this guy took the first shot. I mean, he was like straight up lying about who we are and what we claim. And was like basically implying that he's gonna tell everybody in the crypto community that we're lying to dms.

Dotta: Dms. Like, it wasn't just like for show on the show, it was like afterwards, like follow up. And that was, that was like

Elf: crossing a line. Yeah. And, and, and, and, and like I'm not gonna share, like, I'm not a huge fan of call out culture at all, but this guy just like took it to a, a ridiculous level and we had to defend the project.

Um, and so, yeah, [00:46:00] I mean, the guy's a clown. I, I don't care if that sounds rude or distasteful. He, he just really is, I mean, look at his pfp. Um, but, alright. Alright. You know, and, and, and I, you know, there's one other angle to this, which is a lot of crypto projects thrive on drama. I mean, that is how any personality can really just get engagement is by indulging in drama.

And, and if. Like, I think Forgotten ruins really kind of rates pretty low on the drama scale. We're, we're generally a really like well natured project where ever like at, at the, at the top of our scale is just love and goodwill. And, and I wanna keep it that way. I never wanna do like the drama arc. Um, we've even had people straight up tell us, you guys need more drama.

That's how you're gonna get engagement. And so, For me, it was just like, okay, let's do an experiment with the drama arc, cuz I [00:47:00] know this is one that we can win. I know this is one that we didn't even start and so let's just see what happens. Let's, let's play with it. Um, and that was sort of my motivation behind it.

There

Dotta: was an aspect of us internally where it was like an opportunity for, uh, where we're like, no, wait, we're right here and we never have drama about us. Ooh, how exciting is this? We're finally getting some f great.

Bearsnake: Like how do we, how you, it was like how, like, this is what drama feels like. How do we, how do we, how do we turn it around and use talk?

Yeah. Well, and,

Elf: and like, drama's not that good. So No. But like, even internally in the Magic Machine Discord, we were all just like having so much fun. Like just, just with everything that was going on with this guy and, and the tweets and stresses me out. I, I

Dotta: don't relish it.

Elf: I don't relish it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

El El does,

El

Bearsnake: is fine. No, by the way, my, my yearbook quote was, I feel safer in the eye of the storm by [00:48:00] like some punk band lag wagon growing up. Oh, funny. So I'm all, I'm all about being, in, being in the middle of it.

Dotta: It's, it's, it's fine. I'm tearing up, looking at the discord right now. There is a lot of kind words.

Thanks

Elf: everyone. Yeah. And let me be clear, I don't necessarily like the drama either. I don't like co-op culture, but I do like to argue if I know I'm right and I knew that if I went onto this show, I would be right in pitching forgotten rooms. It's, it's such an easy pitch. Like it, like I'll pitch it in front of anyone.

Um, so, you know that that's, that's what I enjoy if that's called drama. So,

Bearsnake: Um, oh my God. This copy pasta. You're right in secret tower. Amazing. Yeah. Doda, we love you. We love you. I feel it's like that moment you're not in the one, you're not in the 1%. Like

Dotta: Catless Everdeen is like up on the platform and like the, the community is like, holds up two fingers or something.

Bearsnake: Wait, are you cad? Are you, I

Dotta: guess Jay Law? Yeah. I think in this situation I'm so, I'm so relatable.

Elf: You are [00:49:00] God, like charisma. Oh

Dotta: boy.

Elf: Um, okay. Uh, we've got about 10 minutes left. Uh, there's been some really great cult content. Uh, speaking of Dota, um, and, and Godlike charisma, uh, cast. Amir did a really great piece.

I know he is been working on it for a while, but it looks like it's finally finished. It's got the three of us. Uh, just looking cool af Um, and you know, even though Dotas got the guide light charisma, I still think I look the coolest in this. Um, although there, I also dig that you're wearing the jacket.

I'm like

Bearsnake: squatting a gangster style, like, like laid back casual squat with the jacket. I'm giving you a run for your money. I'm sorry.

Elf: Yeah, I agree. I agree. Um, beautiful piece. Kamir, um, Artis of the Rock. Uh, I have, I have been following Artis 3D arc over the last few months and it looks like she's getting better and better.

This latest piece is super [00:50:00] fun. Um, it's got the one who rings sitting on top of this like, fun little cubic landscape of mushrooms and clouds and, uh, it's just awesome. Uh, it's really, it's really fun watching Artis, uh, jour, uh, 3D journey. Um, Meet Prisoner, one of my favorite artists, did this really fun pixel animation of a, of an EMP saying gm.

Um, speaking of emps, uh, MMA dot ETH has a really fun low resolution wizard emp, uh, uh, wise Sam, uh, always with the bangers. I, I love this recent piece by Wise Sam. It's of, uh, I, I think it's one of Jitsu's warriors. Um, and it's a really colorful, cuddle, colorful warrior. Um, you know, it, it's, it's funny cuz like in the pixel art version, it's almost like too colorful and garish, but then in why Sam's rendition, he just made it work.

Uh, the, the colors just [00:51:00] look so awesome. Uh, and it's, it's of the, the Em eating Ramen out of their helmet. Uh, I just, I just love this piece. Um, Angus of Mood does a, did a really fun, uh, Sort of my hero academia crossover. Basically just giving all the stats on their, uh, on their wizard. Um, Merlin shared a really fun feature, uh, from, uh, the Forgotten, um, forgotten Worlds, uh, uh, Minecraft Meta.

Uh, I don't know anything about Minecraft, so I can't say much about this image, but it looks great. Um, uh, mags Wazier did this really fun series of garden statues. Of a bunch of wizards. Um, Gotta say the goat looks the coolest once again. Uh, uh, Leigh's been doing some really fun pieces lately with these really great color palettes, uh, sort of neon palettes and, uh, this latest pieces of a, [00:52:00] of a pixelated frog, uh, with, with this palette, um, I forgot to give a, a Black Sands Grand tour racing update today.

So I think this is the last week of, of the grand tour. Uh, they've just rounded the Cobal crossroad. Um, bear are, how, how's your pony doing? Pretty sure I'm beating you. Yeah.

Dotta: Oh, I had dinner. So I had dinner last night with, um, Sharon and Jay Mander and Whi Daddy. They were so generous. They opened their home to me and Ms.

Doda and my kids, and we went over there and the kids swam and we saw their, their dog, which I think she's been posting about unfamiliar Fridays. And we just had such a lovely time, such a lovely time. She had so many good things to say about tons of people in the car. Col Colt. Um, she's just, just a gem.

One of the things that she said is she said, oh, I'm in first place in the pony races. And I, and I thought that was really, really fun. So I don't know where, uh, where everything stands today, but I, I, I think that [00:53:00] Sharon was in first place where,

Elf: uh, Alicia, she is in first place. I'm looking at the rankings just now.

Dan Sharon. That is impressive. Yeah.

Bearsnake: She's doing a good job. No, that, that, that is, that's, I mean, being in this race for the first time, it takes effort. It really does take effort to be number one. I mean, I'll be honest though, like the only. The only race I'm in is to be Elf and, and so I'm, I'm number one in my,

Elf: ok.

Well, we still got a week left. Uh, black friends. Hello? Yeah. Oh, go ahead. Yeah, go ahead. Hey everyone, how are you? Hey.

Bearsnake: Good. Yo, yo,

Elf: first, first of all, I mean, team congrats for everything that you've been shipping this week. It's been amazing too, to just see the comics, uh, see the updates from the universe game.

It, it's amazing. Everyone is so excited. I am super excited. So amazing. Thank you. To be part of this.

Yeah. Thank you so much. Um, talk to us.

Bearsnake: Is there, is [00:54:00] there anything about black stands you wanna talk about besides Yes. There's one week left,

Elf: right? Yeah, there's one day left for the coronavirus. Oh, one day left. Okay. And Sharon is indeed leading by a narrow two points over, over us. Uh, so it's, uh, It's gonna be a photo finish type of race here.

After three weeks, everybody's very, very close to, to bringing his home. So tomorrow we will know the winner. So good luck to everyone. Couple of of roles left, so it's really to the last minute. Uh, the second update that I want to, to, to fit in if we can. We just, uh, published the interactive, an interactive map for, for Black Sand with amazing work of, uh, Pedro that actually put it together, feckless that created the art and leaf that, uh, brought the, the rhythm and soul to life, uh, with his music.

So really another amazing cult effort. Go visit the [00:55:00] Black Sand Site. You will find an interactive map that you can navigate and see all the buildings and everything that Black Sand has, has to offer so far. So just wanted to give that update to, to the community. I love it. The Black Sand site is, is really impressive.

There's so many features, there's so many metrics, so much information on it. It's, uh, it's, it's just, you know, again, a whole world building effort. I'm so impressed. Um, but, uh, but yeah, I mean, congrats to Sharon. Uh, and, and Oz, you're like two points away. I mean, this race is not over yet. It's uh, it's, it's anybody's game.

I mean, you know, even in third place that they're only like four points behind Second place, uh, Mellon with Bro sous, um, fourth place is Zzz and then fifth place is Tad. Um, yeah, I think I'm in like 65th place, but, uh, it's okay. There, there are prizes for people who aren't in the top places too. You may get, you may get lucky and get the last Pace [00:56:00] prize.

Well, I'm, I'm like a hundred. Well, no, let's see. Yeah, about a hundred. Places behind last place. So I, I don't think I can get that either. Try harder. Yeah, try harder. Love it. That's like my life motto. Yeah. Um, but let's see. Do I have any other cult content that I need to shout out?

Dotta: Um, one super fun thing this week is we have a wedding in the cult.

Uh, Magis was here and Artis Rock will be, uh, married this weekend. I'm going to the wedding. It's gonna be incredibly fun. Uh, so yeah, congrats to the, congrats

Elf: to the new couple. Okay. Doda, you get to have dinner with Sharon and you get to go to Juan's wedding. I mean, what the hell? It's gonna be great. I'm gonna

Dotta: meet, uh, slim and Slim's wife I think are gonna be there and uh, yeah.

I don't know if anyone else from the cult is, but it's gonna be super duper fun.

Elf: Yeah, [00:57:00] that's,

Bearsnake: that's congrats. The one who rings, I think we might need to change the name. Yeah. Put a ring on it. Yeah. The one

Dotta: who put a ring on it. I don't have

Bearsnake: a good name. Yeah. The one who put a ring on it. Exactly. There you go.

Elf: Well done.

Bearsnake: Uh, well, I don't know. Is that, is that what we have for the show boys?

Elf: Uh, I was, I was actually a bit earlier with my headphones. I actually would go a little bit over the, uh, update. Yeah. Yeah. Go for it. Yeah. Yeah. So for everybody who isn't, who, who hasn't seen yet, we actually, we put out the, um, put out a blog post today that, um, for like some updates, it has a lot of great stuff in, it has like, some of the beautiful art assets that we have going through some of the cities.

Uh, it has some of the new, like, visual effects for like stat, stat buffs and stuff. Um, it also goes through, um, it goes through a little bit of like the, uh, UI for how decorations are gonna be for, in, for like, actually like making you, um, For your, for your, um, house that you can customize with. It goes [00:58:00] over the, like, some of the dungeon UIs and some of the mechanics that we're gonna be employing.

And then there's a, at the very end, there's like, um, there's a, a preview of our white paper that we've actually been working on for a while. I think that's, um, that's obviously gonna go like a lot more in depth about like how the mechanics are gonna work out and how the old game flow is. Um, that I'm really excited for.

But you can kind of like, if we posted some pages there that we thought would be, um, exciting to read, so we kind of get the general gist of what some of the mechanics are gonna lead into and such. So definitely check it out today. Uh, we posted it on our Discord, so please feel free to dive in and take, take a look at everything that we have.

There's so many fun

Dotta: gifts and such like, uh, great artwork that update.

Elf: Yeah, it's a, it's a big, it's a pretty big dump, so of, of information and of, uh, of images. So I think, um, there's a lot to, to dig through to, to get a lot of good information from. Cool. Yep. It was a great thread. So, so much fun stuff. So much good artwork.

It's, uh, it's coming along [00:59:00] nicely. Um, okay. Well, I think it's, uh, time, unless there's anything else Bear does. I'm good. Yeah, I'm good. This song came to us from, uh, a request by Zales Soul who rem who reminded me that this song was indeed written by a dream master. If you, uh, if you listen to the lyrics, I think that's actually true.

Uh, channeling out from the quantum Downs, this has been Elf Toda, bear Snake, black Sands, and every Wizard in the Forgotten Rooms. Wizards, cult, Gian, everybody. Bye.

You know, I didn't even get.[01:00:00]
