Exploration invites players to traverse the vast expanses of the Runiverse, where they can engage in the collection and crafting of items, and indulge in the creative pursuit of home decoration. This aspect of gameplay is designed to stimulate curiosity and foster a sense of discovery.
Combat, on the other hand, plunges players into the thrilling depths of dungeons, where they can undertake quests and engage in battles against formidable foes. This element of gameplay serves to enhance character development and progression, providing a satisfying sense of achievement.
Ownership, the third pillar, allows players to stake their claim on resources, enabling them to provide services and play a pivotal role in the game's economy. The combat system is designed to be fun, rewarding, and deeply strategic, with an 'active' turn-based system. Players customize their character's abilities and equipment outside of combat, and engage in combat at various points throughout their experience in the game for story and XP progression, crafting rewards, or the prestige of being at the top of the PvP rankings.
Combat flow is tracked by an Action Time Bar (ATB Bar). When a character's portrait reaches the right side of the bar, they can complete an action such as a spell or attack. The rate at which characters reach the end of the ATB Bar can be changed by the character’s Memory Crystals and current status effects.
Actions and Abilities
Players start the game with a limited set of skills. As they progress, they grow their character's abilities and earn more advanced Memory Crystals to customize their character with Base, High, Heart, and Soul Abilities. Abilities have their own unique cool down, so players need to strategize when to use each action.
Basic Abilities
Basic abilities are granted by Basic Crystals in the early game. These abilities scale throughout the game, making them a dependable part of the player's arsenal even in the late game.
High Abilities
High Abilities are unlocked when a player specializes their character into one of the seven Wizard Color Paths. These abilities tend to be more powerful and complex but might be more useful in some situations than others.
Heart Abilities
Heart Abilities are passive abilities that augment the player's playstyle. They can augment abilities that the player already has, for example by adding an increased chance of Critical or of inflicting a Status Effect.
Soul Abilities
Soul Abilities are the last type of ability a player will unlock. These abilities are exceptionally powerful and can define a player's playstyle, or augment an otherwise balanced build.
Enemies
Players will encounter three tiers of enemies throughout the game: Minions, Elites, and Bosses. These enemies are progressively harder in each tier. Powerful enemies can have multiple sets of ATB Bars to use and some spells may pause or slow some or multiple of these bars.
Getting to the Fight
Combat encounters are not random in the game. Players will always know when they're going to have to fight, so they can prepare themselves and their team. Combat can be triggered while exploring the world, inside dungeons, or in city arenas.
Partying
Players can go into combat alone or in a party. There are bonuses for playing as a group, including additional XP and other rewards. The size of the party will impact the enemies faced in combat. Because players are limited to 4 skill slots, they can work together to use a larger variety of spells together and even combo their effects.
Events
Hunt for the Lightbulb Frogs
The Hunt for the Lightbulb Frogs was a limited-time event in the Forgotten Runiverse game that took place from the launch of the pre-alpha build until June 24 2022. This event marked the first playable preview for the public to explore in the game. To celebrate this milestone, the developers hosted an epic scavenger hunt for players to find, forage, and friend the Light Bulb Frogs of the Forgotten Runiverse. Public computers running this build were stationed in the Enter the Runiverse NFT NYC 2022 event.
Overview
The event was designed to encourage exploration and interaction within the game. Players were tasked with finding Light Bulb Frogs scattered throughout the Runiverse. The event was tied to the game's pre-alpha build, which was the first time players could explore the game world. The Hunt for the Lightbulb Frogs event was tied to the release of the first playable pre-alpha build of Forgotten Runiverse. The pre-alpha build was a very early look at the world and was missing almost all the core gameplay loops planned for the final release. However, it allowed players to get a first taste of what the world looks like and to discover the various regions.
The main features of the pre-alpha build included basic movement and using the map, communicating and collaborating with other players, and participating in the Hunt for the Lightbulb Frogs event. Players could also connect their Metamask Wallet to track how many Frogs they've collected and award prizes later.
Participation
To participate in the event, players had to sign up with their Metamask Wallet on the Premint Page. Once the build was live, players could start playing by connecting their Metamask Wallet and searching for Light Bulb Frogs in the game world.
Prizes
The event offered a range of prizes for participants. Players who found 30 or more Light Bulb Frogs were boosted in their place in the Allow List. The first 5 people to activate 100 Light Bulb Frogs earned a free Warrior in the FRWC collection, and a Homestead Land Plot. They also earned preferred placement in the Allow List for the upcoming Land Mint. Players ranked 6-25 earned a Homestead Land Plot along with preferred placement in the Allow List for the upcoming Land Mint.
In addition to these prizes, players also received in-game rewards during the Hunt, including speed boosts, unique auras, and achievements that unlocks bonuses for the game's 1.0 release.
See the recap blog for a full list of winners.
